Help please - New car for my 21st

Featured Replies

I turn 21 in a few months and Im looking to get myself a new car. I will have just under 3 years no claims and a clean record. Ive got a furby vRS at the moment and want to keep it as I do alot of miles for work and Its ideal.

Budget -

Car Max 10K

Insurence Max £1500 a year

What ever car I get wont be used very much, weekends mainly. It needs to be fun, fast and a bit different. So no suggestions of mx-5's please.

Im most worried about insurence and wanted to know what I could realisticly own.

Ive been looking a few cars: e36 m3, Integras, older skylines, scoobys and evos and kit cars.

If you could give me a few suggestions and tell me your experience at own performance cars at a young age that would be great.

Cheers

josh

I think that's sorted that out then ey?

I suspect you'll find that at 21 , even with three years NCB , that anything really quick will cost way more than £1500 to insure.

If you want a quick weekend toy have you considered a bike?

il keep it for work, its paid off and insurence is not alot so theres no point of getting rid. I want something qucker though and not diesel. Ive looked into doing my bike test. Its not a bad idea apart from the risk of coming off.

I'd second motorbike or go for a classic car and do some sprinting.

Westfield?

Stick to what you know mate...Plenty of good Occies around just google " cheapest skodas " Oh and the new Fiat 500 is a very very good buy, only if you canget a few more £££s you can get the Abarth....WHOOOOOOOOOWEEEEE

why stick to what you know, if i had the money for a second car I'd go for either an auto or that Ford XR4i that popped up

Sorry mate. Have I misread your post? :o

You want something to supplement the Furby?

I'd never in a million years suggest a bike for anyone, (apart from a mountain bike) but that's just me hating them with a deep passion.

I'll back the comments from loskie and captain sisko then.

A Westfield or equivilant, and go do some sprints and hillclimbs.

Awesome fun, and a damned good hoot as a weekend toy too.

Sorted!

Why not spend the money on the Furby and make it a beast?

They are damn good cars, and with a £10k budget... it could be an awesome little machine.

even with 10k spent on it it still won't go round a corner, suprising how 10k don't stretch to as much as you think it would when modding
If you want a quick weekend toy have you considered becoming a homosexual?

But seriously, weekend toy... Elise, Cateram, Westfield?

I personally wouldn't do that, as it won't make it worth anymore when you finally come to sell it, infact, possibly the opposite.

I wouldn't touch a modified molested performance car with a barge pole.

If you're going to keep it very long term however, well maybe p'raps ?

£10k budget, £1500 Insurance, 21 years old?

What the hell do you do? I never had cash like that at your age!!

I didn't like to mention that, but it did cross my mind too.

Ae 21, a £150 budget bought me a 1966 Hillman Minx Deluxe!

Well with a name like Josh it's unlikey that Daddy owns a successful chain of corner shops/middle eastern hotels (read: Westside VW ).

I hope it's lots of hardwork and saving, I really do!

The cars I looked at before the vRS were:

1999 Supra TT (£950 fully comp)

1978 Trans am (£1500 fully comp)

2003 MR-2 Turbo (£1600 fully comp)

Thats for a 22yo, 0ncb, 4 years claims free driving, student. Costs me £600 for the furby to insure if that is anything to go buy.

Mk 4 R32 Golf? Audi TT225 Quattro.

Can we take bets on how long a person age 21 with something much faster than a Fabia vRS will keep his licence ? ;)

I had an Octavia vRS at 21 - much faster than a Fabia vRS, and I've got a clean license

Well done that man

Probably more through luck than judgement

Save the money, you've got a decent enough car anyway at 21, probably better than most 21 year olds.

Save it for something which isn't a wasting asset.

Close the door on the way out, there's your answer :-)

...what?

Are you suggesting the OP gets an Octy? If so, good!
