Adding music to the columbus HDD

Featured Replies

Help gents and lassies,

I ve just swapped my Octavia for a Superb elegance, I am currently trying to work out what is the best way to copy music to the Hard drive. The memory states that there is 18gb availalbe. The handbook states that it can take up to 40 minutes to copy music files. As the car will shutdown after 10 minutes it engine not started, does that mean tha ti have to either drive around for 40 minutes or leave the engine running.???

The handbook states that if the car shuts down the I have to start again.

help

PS nice car, the neigbours think I have bought a limo

Took me best part of a Saturday to put about 5gb of music on my unit not helped as my music on my pc is in itunes and needed converting first

Gave up in the end and now i just add audiobooks

Agree with simbo99, Its a piece of cake once you have done it a couple of times.

P.S. my neighbours will think the same once mine arrives. (apparently landed in UK a couple of days ago so wont be too long now!!)

I just whanged my music onto several 2GB SD cards, then allowed it to upload as I was driving along (with the volume at zero). No problem and it's all done in the background. :)

Hello,

You cannot unfortunately load direct from a normal CD.

However I am told there is an attachment you can by the you plug in the rear of the unit and you can connect your laptop to it and in doing so upload your complete music directory (dependent on size of course in one go)

SNOB (sadly now S NOB after run in with boys in blue trying to catch drink driver, me not being one of them)

Sorry about that - you're absolutely correct and I've edited my post. I got confused with loading from a CD I'd prepared (full of converted .mp3 files) that I uploaded whilst driving around. :o

Yep - slow going i agree - but 2GB SD card process works for me. Also ensure that the Columbus is not currently playing any content already - either stop it or pause the current track and let the copy process run it's course. Doing it over a few days is best plan and works for me.

Best Regards,

Ste.

In the same boat as you G.K. I am told I will get mine by end of week. My calender say's it's thursday today and I'm still waiting, so I will believe it when I've got the keys in my hand! Just hope they prove me wrong cos I'm like a kid waiting for christmas right now!

As far as columbus goes, we used a 2gb card in my mates vrs the other day and it was really quick and easy.

There is a nack to getting the copy process running faster, on mine I can do a 4.7GB DVD in about 30 mins.

The trick is to NOT listen or watch the copy process, as this seems to slow it down. So once you start the copy process going, switch to radio and leave the unit copying.

Listening to the music whilst copying causes excessive head seeks on the DVD drive which slows the whole thing right down.

The columbus will not power down until the copy is complete, so you can leave it going. The display may switch off but it will complete the copy in the background.

i left the keys in the ignition on the drive then locked the doors using the keyblade on the 2nd key. use a DVD with mp3 on it as you can do it from about 3 DVDS and get it all done in one sessions

I've only got the bolero/RCD500

Suddenly feel rather smug having MDI, USB hard disk or iPod, acesss to 100+ GB of music in 10 seconds. Oh and being able to use SDHC cards and still have 6 mp3 cds available to use :)

Sorry :P

then again, I cant view images, DVD's and I need a tomtom lol

Not sure that is a great idea probably worth checking since the ignition system ie coils etc can overheat on some petrol engines if the ignition is left on for a long time

The key only has to be in, not switched on, doesn't it? :)

I'm sure he means in the accessory position - ie the one before starting the engine

I doubt it - there isn't one.

:(That'll teach me not to look at what car rufusmcc has - am I to presume then that the 'key' is the same as the one in a Passat then?

If so, then I'll eat my proverbial hat...........:D

Having the key inserted in the Superb II acts like an accessory position, but once you turn it, the ignition is on. The Octy did have an accessory position AFAIR, and that's still the car shown under the OP's avatar. :)

If the dash lights are on then the ignition is on meaning that on some cars (i dont know if the Superb or not but this should be checked) the ignition system is energised awaiting the starter to be used , leaving the car in the state for a long time ie 30 mins or more can cause components to overheat Obviously not a problem on diesels
