cruise control

Hi i have bought a new 09 plate mk2 superb 1.9TDi S and using it as a taxi. Although most of my work is around town i do use my car for long distance holidays to Europe, i would like to have cruise control fitted to make the drive slightly easier. I have asked at two main Skoda dealers and they both told me they have no info about having it fitted after market, does anyone know if it is possible to have fitted and costs?

Thanks Philip :)

Where are you?

About to take delivery of mine, also a taxi, elegance spec so already got it but I will ask a friend of mine if it's possible to retro fit. He's done it on a lot of cars in the past (works for VW group) from fabia's to T5's and most recently his own 08 plate octavia vrs.

we had it fitted on a passat. used and independent guy who was mobile. he was an ex VW technician and was very good and cheap. used genuine VW parts. all you do is replace the indicator stalk and then pop a laptop onto the ECU and activate the system. no reason why it should not be possible on a superb. cost me about £250 - 300 on the passat. he does it on the old shape superb, maybe worth contacting him and asking Skoda Cruise Control - Volkswagen & Audi Cruise Control Installations, VW

New 3T Superb uses the same cruise kit as 1Z octavia, part number BEA600002A.

Only difference is that you may have to run a wire (included in the kit) from T20a/13, steering wheel control unit to T94a (pin designation changes with engine code) on the engine control unit.

Then jiggery pokery with a VAS and away you go.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the big up Mr Smith:)

Sorry, Pin 20 on your engine control unit if you have a 1.9tdi PD, BXE of BLS engine code....

Is fitting cruise control so difficult?

I found a garage that would retrofit cruise control into my superb (see above) after emails and phone calls and after they lost my phone number twice i finally got a date to fit cruise control.

I had to take my car this morning and pick it up this evening as they told me they would need my car for a full day. When i dropped it off this morning, for some reason i asked to see the new unit they would be fitting, the box was still sealed so they opened it up and it was the wrong unit, the wiper stok never had the switch to reset and to toggle through the mpg etc. They told me it came in yesterday and they did ask did the wiper stok have a switch on it before they orderd it. If it was me i would have checked that it was the correct part when it came in.

I was told that i would be called back as the person that was dealing with it wasnt in yet so i gave them my mobile again number to make sure they would call me. After 3 hours i heard nothing so i called them back i was told he would need to order another unit and would call me straight back, 4 hours later i still havnt heard anything.

I phoned Skoda UK and asked why my dealer Henrys cant retro fit cruise to my superb they told me, its because of the wiring loom and it would probably wont be available, its only to order out the factory

I think the problem is that your chosen supplier seems not to be familiar with the cruise control fitted to the Superb. The clue is in his reference to the wiper stalk - it's the indicator stalk he should be talking about. I've fitted cruise control to a Seat Alhambra and there is no problem at all, and the system looks very similar on my Superb (mine's an Elegance and already has it, but it operates identically to that fitted to my Alhambra).

My advice is to go to someone who has done it before.

Skoda UK say its to do with the wiring loom (see above)

As per post #7 can't you just add the extrawire if its needed? They usually include the wire in the cruise control kit, they did when I got one for a Golf I used to have.

I wouldnt hold much hope for your current garage getting anyhting to work by fitting wiper stalks with extra buttons on though, As posted above its the indicator stalk they should be playing with!

Ok i will try and make it clearer.

I first approached Henrys the Skoda dealer in Glasgow they said isn't possible and couldn't give a reason why. I then found a garage that deals with Audi and VW retro parts they said yeah its possible but you will need the extra stalk under the indicator so they ordered it and it came in without the button on the wiper stalk that controls the display mpg, temp etc, as they were hopeless at returning my calls and ordering the incorrect part and telling me they had ordered the part when they havnt i have decided to give them a miss. I called Skoda UK and asked why Henrys cant retro fit cruise and they said that its to do with the wiring loom already in the car and cruise can only be ordered out the factory as the car is built.

I find it hard to believe myself

The cruise control is a simple canbus connection, and with a bit of coding can be retrofitted. Skoda also told us its impossible to retrofit a columbus nav, and Maxidot to an octavia but as many will testify it is.

Thats because they are talking rubbish. As Manyo says above SUK claim loads of things can't be retro-fitted, in fact they can as many of us can testify.

I was told by SUK that I couldnt fit the Maxidot from a VRs into my car as 'all the software and connections are not present/different'. Totaly untrue as it is now in the car and works 100%. Sometimes they dont fully understand what is possible.

This is the Audi system. The system on the Superb is the VW system, which uses a switches in the end, and on top of, the indicator stalk - there is no extra stalk needed. You need to find someone who knows what they are on about.

I bet the wire is already there too, but if not, the extra wire is supplied in the kits for various VW's. The only things you should need to do are:

1) Fit the replacement indicator stalk.

2) Maybe fit an extra wire.

3) Enable the cruise control with VAGCOM.

Just looked at Skoda.uk website and cruise control is now listed for the 2008> Superb and 2009> Yeti.

It will cost £163 fitted at Henrys car booked in for next week. :D

Cruise control is not a problem. It only cost £65 + labour 1,5h (£112). It may be necessary to replace the steering control unit if it does not support cruise control . That's another £133, and I don't think there is eny exrta labour time involved.

You can ring your local dealer to confirm. It don't hurt.

Good Luck

Cruise control update

Arrived at Henrys at 10:30 this morning and handed keys to service department.

They said they will call around lunchtime to let me know how they were doing.

At 2:15pm i never heard anything so i called they told me, they were having problems how to connect an extra wire from one part to somewhere else via the ECU and bulkhead and there would be an additional cost of £55+vat as it was taking longer than they thought and they were waiting on Skoda UK to call them back to resolve the problem.

They will TRY to have the car finished for late tomorrow afternoon.

I said i have missed 1 night shift of work and walked about Glasgow for more than 4 hours waiting on them to call me back. I was given no apology and it was the first time they tried to fit cruise to a mk2 Superb.
