Seriously, why do i bother?

Featured Replies

Its that time of the year again, renewal time.

Today my renewal quote lands on the doormat, and shock horror, its gone UP. By £85!

I don't understand. My Mods are the same. I'm now 30 yrs old. I have one more protected NCB to my file. I changed address and was told the price was "exactly the same". I have no points or convictions.

So why do i have to go through all this hassle of getting new quotes year after year with AF when it says on my renewal "Unbeatable Guarantee", yet you can't beat last years quote

Last year i was quoted £315 before the extra admin charges and apr rates over monthly payments. If AF can't get this down to £300 this year (is £15 off too much to ask for at the age of 30 with a clean licence and record?) then someone else will be getting my money this year.

End of rant :D

Prices go up due to uninsured drivers, but when insurers charge new drivers so much, then why are they surprised at getting stung?

  • Author

But i'm not a new driver, nor have i ever driven uninsured.

I know what will happen, i will get a better quote from Sky or Brentacre, then AF will beat it (just like last year) but if they can get it lower, why not give me that price now?

By the time i've spent money on phone calls, and renegotiating with current insurers, it starts to wear thin and you feel your loyalty isn't appreciated.

But i'm not a new driver, nor have i ever driven uninsured.

But you're paying for those who are

Also insurers will elect to price out drivers/demographic groups they'd rather not insure for what ever reason.

I'm not being out priced, just bent over.

When it was just over £300 a year ago, why would i happily pay extra for the same car under the same circumstances.

Keep your violin, i know a perfect place you can store it

You must keep alot of stuff in your spare wheel well?

I've heard it called many things but never that

Seriously though everybody knows that you should expect your renewal figure to take the ****. It is a bind to go and trawl through a load of quotes every year but that unfortunately is the status quo.

If anyone wants to get their own back on their insurance company, have a big accident. Simples.

wish mine was that cheap and mines 100% standard !

I'm still getting quotes at the moment, so will PM you my details once i've found the best one, then we can test that guarantee.

cant you see, the price is a load more expensive the following year because there planning on you just lettin it roll over because you cant be bothered to ring round! the majority of people will do this and there gettin bummed big time!. my renewal came threw for 794 pound! witha nice letter sayn dont worry its all sorted for you you dont need to do anythin and so on. rung round and got it down to 580!! just started another thread regarding this so ill not repeat myself. did same with my house insurance.

My insurance went up by approx £40 last time at renewal, I did contact the insurers in question to ask why and if there was anything they could do! They did reduce my monthly premium by 8p! Yes 8p per month!

I know there is nothing we can really do about insurance companies increasing their premiums to cover the ****heads that are un-insured drivers and the ridiculous "no win, no fee" culture that we now live in!

Now I'm no young 'un, nearly 40 in fact and live in a decent area but I feel I'm paying over the odds (£450) especially with a no claims history dating back 20 years for a standard Fabia Vrs which is parked on my driveway!

I use a lot of the price comparison sites to try and get the best deal but I like the reassurance of protected no claims, legal cover, breakdown cover, etc so I guess thats why my premium is high.

seems a bit steep that for your age? i have just renewed mine on a remapped fabia parked on drive 11 years ncb 29yo 580 including breakdown.

There is a lot of truth in what you say.....I change my insurance company every year. If they expect loyalty they have another thing coming. Loyalty is a two way thing...surely as part of their loyalty to me, they should provide me with the lowest quote. They dont so I change

The other part is nothing to do with car insurance really. They invest your premium and the rate of return has fallen so to make up for their reducing profits, they screw the driver by raising cost of the yearly rogering

I have to agree with "09facelift" you must shop around every year for insurance or you'll get ripped off.

My insurance always goes up every year and I have to change the insurance company to bring it down to a reasonable level

the guarantee is good mate, i saved £300 against last year using it

seems a bit steep that for your age?

Steep? Effing vertical more like... :D

Needless to say I'll be shopping around again come renewal time! I'm considering fitting Eibachs and don't want to pay silly money to insure it with them on either!

We have a system called the free market economy in this country so we are all able to shop around for the best quotes on insurance, purchases, interest rates etc. You wouldn't go and buy a new computer, car, washing machine etc. at the first dealer you walked into without comparing the whole deal, would you?

I go through all my insurances, savings rates, energy bills at least every two years to find the best rates and it is quite surprising how much can be saved.

£400 is naff all, so I'm afraid I think I just found the world smallest orchestra.

If you think can find better on the comparison sites and I agree you probably will, then I suggest you go to one of these companies or ask AF to match.

I just change insurer most years! With it being mostly web based now it's easy enough to email your NCB proof letter about. I tend not to give them a second chance after giving me a crappy renewal quote.

Endsleigh gave me a poor renewal quote one year, so went to Esure, who a year later did the same, so now I'm with AF. If Flux give a poor renewal quote next year I'll probably move again.

Insurance companies seem to have little loyalty to you, so just treat them in the same way and take your currency elsewhere.

I still think the car insurance system should be changed totally, and you should only be able to buy it from one source, like the DVLA. Then you'd have standard fixed rates based on all the normal deciding factors. Then it could be properly managed and policed like car tax is.

Your missing the point.

I use AF because they deal with Modified cars. Most insurance co's on 'price comparison' sites don't.

Also, they aren't always the cheapest quotes, i have found far cheaper than these simply by trying the insurer on their own website.

The point to my post wasn't that i can't get cheaper, i have already found cheaper. My point is, i'm paying more for the same car, with another years no claims, and have to find someone else BEFORE they decide to give me a better quote. I want the best quote first time around.

I don't think its too much to ask for personaly.

Almost no insurers will quote online for mods full stop - last check was 3 on confused. If you're not owners and keeper (ie private leased) or have mods inc factory options, then you need to ring around usually.
