Seriously, why do i bother?

Featured Replies

Your missing the point.

I use AF because they deal with Modified cars. Most insurance co's on 'price comparison' sites don't.

Also, they aren't always the cheapest quotes, i have found far cheaper than these simply by trying the insurer on their own website.

The point to my post wasn't that i can't get cheaper, i have already found cheaper. My point is, i'm paying more for the same car, with another years no claims, and have to find someone else BEFORE they decide to give me a better quote. I want the best quote first time around.

I don't think its too much to ask for personaly.

No I'm not missing the point, I get what you're saying and I'm just saying that this is the way most companies want to play things these days.

All the focus on getting new customers (as most of the time the sales staff get bonuses for this) and very little care for keeping existing customers happy.

As such all you can do is play their silly game and if they keep doing it or it really annoys you then go elsewhere.

I can't say I've ever had a good quote from AF as of yet, so I can't comment past that.

Hey Davey

Looks like the same as last year!

Just about to PM Dan as my AF insurance has gone up massively again this year and again, Brentacre and Sky are cheaper...Hopefully Dan can sort it again, I'm all for shopping around but ultimately I like continuity - 3 years with AF so far...

Finally got my final quote sorted, and called AF back today for a test of the Guarantee.

Firstly, massive thanks to SKY and BRENTACRE for some very good quotes, without them i'd be paying alot more this year.

Sky quoted me £350 (£250 excess) policy was the same.

Brentacre quoted £349.95 (£250 excess) policy was identical, but they allowed my mods to peak at 180bhp without any price hike.

AF quoted £312 (£250 excess) same policy, but with breakdown cover thrown in.

I did get a little bit creative with my quotes before caling them back (lowered it by £20 and mentioned free breakdown cover) and it payed off.

So, another year with AF for £3 less and with free breakdown cover. Shame i had to exagerate in order to make a saving, but it proves that they could have done it in the first place.

:)

And admitted it in the official section for that very company? :D

Shameless!

Glad you're sorted, but I have a feeling you'll have some comments inserted in your AF file now, following those recent posts :)

Steve

ive had a qoute of adrain flux and chris knott, chris knott was a fortune adrain flux was 200 cheaper but still double price of a standadrd car are sky and bretacre worth trying? i need to get a good quote for my modified octavia vrs mk1 i could understand paying another 2 to 300 more on insurance for mods but double price is mad ive got quote of 629 standard then with mods declared adrian flux £1600 chris knott £1840 no driving defects or anything my age is slightly against me but thousand pound more? :thumbdwn:

Yes

I've got nothing to hide, they could have easily said 'sorry Dave, we can't beat that' and let me go elsewhere. But they beat it, proving that i could have had a cheaper renewal to begin with.

Its all arranged now, and i'm happy. I'm sure AF wouldn't want to revoke it and cause a stir

If AF can live with giving me a renewal price that was so high to start with, i can live with my tactic to fetch it back down again.

Nothing on my policy has changed, so i've not broken the law, just tried my luck.

At 22 your doing well to get insured on an Octy vRS in standard form. Did you check the premium hike BEFORE getting the Mods done?

Sky and Brentacre have been pretty good over the last 2 years, and helped to drive my insurance down. Worth a call if they save you money.

there are two ways at looking at insurance (car or otherwise)

1 - it's a legal requirement or requirement or a lender so you gotta pay itand want to pay the very minimum. Often overlooking things like emergency cover, courtousy cars, excesses.

2) - its an INSURANCE and in return for your premium you really want it to be there and look after you if you have a really big problem.

personnally I go with the second school. I still want VALUE just don't trust cheap

Totally agree.

i should of looked into it but didnt which was my own fault got caught up in the modding of the car but even with mods on i expected to be quite abit more like i say 2 3 even 400 more but didnt expect a grand i could buy a 300hp car which is same power as mine rufly and prob be cheaper than that? al have to declare it and pay the cheapest quotw which at min is adrian flux going to try sky and bretacre see wot they can do cheers for reply

And you seriously wonder why you have to batter quotes down year after year? It's exactly because of people like you trying it on with the companies and 'getting creative'. The cost of providing extra services has to come from somewhere...

Get over yourself.

People like me knocking £20 off instead of pating an extra £85. I bet that will impact everyones premiums by less than a penny.

The reason you pay more each year is simple..... you're too idle to shop around and get the best deal. I got AF to offer a price that saved me money. If they couldn't provide a quote without still making a profit, then i wouldn't have a policy with them would i.

I think you should step back from the keyboard and stop generalising.

If you think I'm too idle and that I don't shop around for insurance then fair enough.

Well done for winning the game and getting a deal you're happy with.

I'd weep with joy if my renewal was anything like what you were quoted - I'm your age, have a clean licence, 6 years NCB and my car ain't even modded.

I agree that the insurer should give their best effort straight away. I was with AF but their last quote went up a lot, so they didn't get a second chance just went to Chris Knott for around £325 for a modded Octy mk1 4x4, but I do live in the sticks and get letters from Saga:(, If people stopped giving the insurers a second chance maybe they'd get it right first time:thumbup:

jesus i dont get why your being charged that much ive only got 5 years no claims but 3 is on van and only two on car if everyone thinks thats a decent quote i will take it up just wanted to ask around see what everyone thought just seems alot to me when i will only be doing 2 to 3 thousand miles a year

It's the way insurance works these days. Sucker you in with a low initial quote, then put the price up the next year and hope you'll just pay up because it's some hassle for you to call around and get quotes again. I say get quotes every time. Just a few hours work can potentially save you more than you'd earn at work for the same amount of time, so it's time well spent :)

I still think the car insurance system should be changed totally, and you should only be able to buy it from one source, like the DVLA. Then you'd have standard fixed rates based on all the normal deciding factors. Then it could be properly managed and policed like car tax is.

Are you serious?!?!?!?!

The DVLA holding a monopoly of the car insurance industry....

A government agency properly running something?

Please can a MOD or Admin close this thread.

called brentacre bloke was ace on phone he new everything about modified cars as hes a car enthusiast him self for fully comprehensive insurance at 22 and all mods delclared remap ect just over £1400 def reccomend them

I'm gobsmacked at the premiums you are paying!!!!!

I have a '54 reg Octy2 1.9TDI, 14,000 miles pa, I am 61 years old and with 4yrs NCB (very minor shunt in 2005), living in Notts. Quoted £167 by AA (fully comp), then bought same insurance via Qidco (cashback website - be sure to carefully follow site instructions!!!!! - delete IE cookies!!) and got £50 cashback - net cost £117.

I NEVER reinsure via the same insurer without first checking all alternatives - same applies to my motorcycle insurance (£60 ish net via Quidco - Bennetts), House and Contents (£100 ish net via Quidco - Budget Insurance).

You just need to do a bit of "legwork".

All the best,

Dave

Personally I'd ring up AF as a 'new' customer and get a new quote! if you're lucky they might not pick up on the fact that you're an existing customer. It would not suprise me if the increases in insurance premiums at renewal are down to admin fees and as suggested, down to people just renewing it cuz its the easiest thing to do!

I shop around every year. No chance I'm paying some of the renewal prices I've had through!! Then again, I'm 22, so always look for the cheapest insurance anyway cuz I'm not exactly minted!
