Swing Radio Help

Featured Replies

Hi, I have been a Briskoda member for some time, but have been offline due to illness.

We picked up our new Superb in August. We originally ordered a 1.4TSI S, but the TSI engine was unavailable (again - a common VW group problem) and ended up with a Greenline instead.

The car is brilliant, but on collection, the salesman came clean that the radio, that had been working previously, had not produced sound on the Pre-Delivery Inspection. The unit turned on and functioned, just no sound through the speakers.

The head unit was finally changed last week (we moved house and Skoda delayed by a few weeks), for another Swing unit, but I am sure it is different to the one that was installed, it is definitely difeerent to the one in the Car Stereo manual and I no longer have the Aux function or outside temperature display.

Is there another Swing radio that is more basic? The one shown in my manual has AS and TP buttons top left, the new one fitted has TP and the music symbol button (to adjust Bass/Treble etc).

The dealer who changed it are convinced they have the right head unit, claiming that only the Swing or Bolero would fit and a Swing was delivered and fitted.

In short HELP!

Also, what are my stereo upgrade options without resorting to a new Skoda unit - do other VW group items fit and how easy is the change?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 1.9TDi S and a swing stereo.

I have on the top left the TP button and the music symbol button which is the same as in my manual. The auxiliary function on mine is worked by pressing and turning the right hand side knob.

I have never heard of being able to read the temp from the stereo unit, it is on your dash display unless for some reason the GREENLINE has a diffrent stereo.

The image used in all of the brochures and the press pack for the Swing is the one attached below, which is what the dealer has just fitted to your car.

I'm guessing that there was a different version, which is what the manuals are currently showing.

Best bet is to go back to the dealer, show him the manual and get a definitive answer on the missing functionality compared to your original unit. It could just be a coding issue that the dealer can fix pretty easily.

Popped into my local showroom for getting a bulb replaced and looked at a the new Octavia - it has the newer version of Swing radio with AS button. You've probably got the newer unit replaced with the previous version. Just looked at the Skoda manual (linked to this forum) and the manual for Swing has been updated for the new version.

Included is the front page of the Swing type 2 radio manual (with the AS button). This one is fitted in my 3 week old Superb.

I live in Belgium so it is possible that radio's fitted may be different.

Looks to me like the dealer has ordered the wrong part. Take it back, and tell them that there are two different Swing units, and you want the newer one, as illustrated in your manual, and as originally supplied from the factory.

This happened to me with my Octy vRS. The dealer replaced my Stream headunit, and the replacement didn't have MP3 CD support, whereas the original one did. I took the car straight back, and asked them to get the correct replacement.

In short - the swing stereo has changed. As shown in the manuals and any pics I can find online was what was fitted when I bought the car. The pic shown in Bapuss' post is what I now have. It was a coding issue - it has now been reprogrammed, but I don't have a manual for the new stereo, only the old one. I am positive that the temperature was displayed in the stereo's dsiplay on the original stereo, because even though it didn't work, we would switch it on from time to time to see the temp. The new one does not do this, but as I don't have a manual, I may not have it set correctly.

The dealer has worked hard to fix this issue (although they have returned the car with stereo fixed, but knocked the airbag warning light into the dash...) and I have found Skoda Customer Service less useful - just got told today that even though I have had to drive my car 400 miles (4 trips to the nearest warranty dealer an hour each way) as it is a warranty repair I am not entitled to any recompense for this inconvenience - just the repair is enough!

I am awaiting a call from the dealer to see if they will fix the airbag light. In all, this blip has been the only problem with our fantastic Superb. I only hanker after some of the toys I had on our Octavia Estate (Superb is Greenline, Octavia was L&K) on the suerb!
