Tyre pressure???

Featured Replies

hi,

i want to know howmuch tire pressure i should use in my FL 1.8 tsi octavia hatch, i have upgraded to 225/45/17 tires. what would be the ideal pressure for them? i m currently running them on 30psi for all four tires, is that fine?

thanks..

Tyre pressures inside the fuel cap ....but the 32 psi they say on there seems to be not enough and I am just trying out 34 psi all round....so far so good

in the flap its not mentioned in psi so i get confused, but 32psi is not enough? i have been driving on 30psi for few days, the fronts do look less inflated at times..

1 Bar =~ 14.5 PSI so just multiply the bars by 14.5 to get the pressure in PSI so :-

2.2bar = 32.0 psi (31.9)

2.3bar = 33.5 psi (33.35)

Both rounded to the nearest 0.5 psi. There aren't that many gauges out there that will give better than 0.5 psi (0.05 bar) resolution.

Get a sticky label and write the pressures on it then stick it underneath the boot floor liner, don't stick it inside the filler flap, it will obscure the official data which could cause problems for future owners.

It depends on what are your targets.

If you aim to fuel saving, precision in cornering (like me) and long tire life at the expense of more noise and hardness you can go for higher pressures (max pressure is printed on each tire).

On my estate,I've been driving 2.8 front and 3.1 rear as per magic62's suggestions for more than a year and my garage congratulated with me for how even tires got used.

HTH

I go 32 PSI all round.....

Typically 2.4bar (35psi) all round. Which is what I use with this tyre size.

i think the ride will be bumpy with that tire pressure, i m from india where the roads are very bumpy & alot of potholes:thumbdwn: witll give 32psi a shot..

on our 17" Pegasus upgrade we use 32 all round (cold pressure) and never had any wear issues. Fronts changed at 30k, rears still original @33k.

If the tyres are hot when checked, then add 3psi. I do this on the works car when out and about.

i gave 32psi a try, the ride did get abit bumpy, i dont believe the difference 2psi can give to the ride, is it ok if i drive the car with 30psi on all four tires? the car normally has 2-3 of us in it, is it safe to run 225/45/17 tires on 30psi??

If you usually have 2-3 passengers, you should be MORE than 32psi!

i mean total 2 or 3 of us in the car, corrected my post..

As above, you should still be running more than 32 with 3 of you. 32 is usually just for the driver and light luggage/passenger. We run ours on 32 with no issues.

My works Mondeo has only me and a boot full of spares, and that's run on max pressures.

I'm running F29 R30, I find higher is too hard and will wear centres more

Now this will be of interest to me as I've got 17" Pallas alloys & sports suspension coming on my car in a few weeks, so it'd be helpful to know what pressures are needed.

32psi all round when cold ;)

Thank you very much No.1.

And keep in mind you can safely run with as much pressure as stated on each tyre sidewalls, yup!

HTH,

You can re-calculate it yourselves with my spreadsheet.

Recalculating tyre-pressure - Windows Live

In this map, always take the newest spreadsheet, and there are examples placed.

It uses the same formula , the car- and Tire-manufacturers use to determine the advice-pressures for cars. So the ones on the plancard on your car somewhere.

Been busy with calculating since 2007, when I cot hold of a copy of the page with the formula from the standards manual of the ETRTO ( European Tire&Rimm Technical Organisation). Mark that the reference-pressure is something else then the maximum-pressure on the tire-side-wall. Just follow the directions in the spreadsheet and select a tyre-type.

Tyre pressures for all tyre wheel sizes are inside the filler cap. None shown in the owners manual.

I'm using 2.1bar F and 2.2bar R for my optional 225/45-17s in day to day situations. But as said, this is just a starting point.

with 29psi in the front & 30 in the rear tyres u re not getting uneven wear? which tyre size are u running? thanks..

howlong does it take for tyres to warm up, i have to drive to the petrol station to get my tyres checked, its lesser then1/2 km of a drive , is that enough to warm up the tires?

34psi all round is great, but wears the centres a bit - am trying 33psi all round now...

im running on 2.44 rear and 2.35 front

I hope that your calibration certificate covers those two decimal places?
