First attempts with the new camera.

Featured Replies

Well my D90 finally arrived last Friday so had a play with it over the weekend. All shots taken using the 18-105mm VR lens but i also have the 55-200mm VR Nikon lens waiting to be used too. :)

Cheers guys. It's a great piece of kit and i really can't complain as i got it for £450 rather than the normal £800. I know there was a reason i'd stuck it out working on the railway for 20 years!!!!! I also got the 55-200mm lens for £165 brand new too.

I'm slowly starting to find out how to get the best out of it and also what you can do when shooting in RAW so will hopefully improve with time too. I keep remembering places i've seen in the past where i could get some good pictures..... How sad am i!!!!!

The moss on log pic above (Next to last pic) is on Interfacelift.com in the public vote to be added to their gallery at the moment so get voting. :D (I believe the site spews loads of pop-ups at times so best turn the pop-up blocker on!!!!)

Cheers

Dave.

Nice pics Wavey - now can you lend it to auroan to see if he could take some video ? ;)

Congrats on the new toy - the D90 is a nice camera (very similar to my old D200). :) Despite the lousy build quality, the 18-105mm and 55-200mm are optically very good lenses, too - close to the metal-bodied monsters, in my experience. :)

If you like macro, you could do a lot worse than either the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 (about £300), or the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 - I love both (most of my plants were taken with the Tokina).

Oh, and if you're doing a lot of indoor shooting, have a look at the SB-600 flash - it is an excellent flash, and bounced into the ceiling it would really have helped your dog pic. :)

Sorry for just having suggested spending what you just have again! :o

You might want to look at investing in Capture NX 2, if you haven't already. It's not the fastest of software, but it is very powerful, and the results are second-to-none, really. :) There's a free trial so you can see if you'll get on with it, too ...

++EDIT: The newly announced 85mm f/3.5 Micro looks good too :)

lol you do like spending my money don't ya. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking at getting a flashgun next but don't know when. With regard the editing software i'm using Photoshop CS4 and also Adobe Lightroom 2.5 at the mo so will stick with them for the moment.

Cheers

Hehe ... yeah, I like shiny new toys, and camera equipment can be a bit of a bottomless hole. ;) In all seriousness though, I've been through a bit of kit, so just thought I'd chime in my thoughts on things I thought you may be looking at in the future, given what you've been photographing. :) If you're looking at a flash later, the I can't recommend the SB-600 enough. Sure, the SB-900 is better (feels more robust, more powerful, bigger zoom range), but the '600 is very capable (more so than the Sigma alternative).

If you've got CS4 & Lightroom, then, yeah, like you say you're set and don't need NX :D

Corrected SB-800 -> SB-900

Top man - those look great Dave. Was the right thing to go for, definitely
