Forza 3!!!

Featured Replies

1.9GB for the second disc of cars and tracks makes sense

then a further 7.2GB to install the game disc as iirc it's about that figure to put Forza 2 on the HDD

Ah, that's ok!

I've got an early Pro, so only have 12GB lol

ditto

although i have no media on my console i still have less than 9GB even if i clear all the demo's etc! but the DLC for Burnout Paradise is over GB!

Mine has been delivered today, WOO!

Been playing this throughout the evening. I'll probably get shot for this but even though it's good I don't think it's particularly earth shattering. It's basically a polished Forza 2 with the addition of a couple of very nice public road courses. It's not graphically wonderful, at least not as much as the trailers would have led us to believe and some of the cars seem to have laughably compromised handling, presumably to balance the classes out - the lift off oversteer in the Abarth 500 is ridiculous, and the Stratos is an absolute pussycat even with no assists.

On the up side the handling is superb and weighty, especially with a wheel, and the range of cars is enough to be interesting without being overwhelming - the retro selection that come as downloads are particularly nice It's well presented too and very easy to navigate around. I'm just a bit concerned at this point that the single player mode will turn out like Forza 2, where you're just grinding more of the same races without the sense that you're actually getting anywhere.

I completely agree Interphase.

It really is the game Forza2 should have been, rather than a new game.

I've yet to see anything "new", other than the rewind capability, but then thats been in soo many games now, its pretty much expected.

The graphics are very underwhelming, and while the driving experience is sublime, its not really that much different to something like Grid, and that managed to be very pretty too.

The handling and force-feedback feel is absolutely stunning, agreed - I think it's even overtaken my beloved Live For Speed, although that is due for an update soon IIRC. The one thing F3 has definitely cracked is making the lowest class cars just as much fun, if not more so, than the top flight racers. The group F Touge style mountain races are a blast, bowling a little Fiat or a Renault 5 along at speeds its tyres really can't deal with :)

What were they thinking of with the class F speedway events though? Ten minutes on an oval in a ford fiesta with the engine at full revs is enough to drive anyone mad.

Well here are my impressions

1. I'm pleased that Microsoft have made the achievements in Forza 3 more evenly spread. In Forza 2 you could earn 200 points really quickly and then had to play the game for hundreds of hours to get the rest (or was that just me?). Forza 3 seems better paced to me.

2. I think the interface is very very easy to use and looks very nice indeed! Top marks to them!

3. Force feedback using the XBox wireless wheel is outstanding, and bordering on real I'd say! I tried playing with a pad briefly and will never do so again unless having a really quick split-screen blast.

4. One complaint I have is load times! How loooong does it take to go from the car selection screen to actually racing? :snooze:.

Also I've tuned up a VW scirocco to match standard Audi R8 kind of pace - it's a monster to get around the track without facing the wrong way or flipping completely (the latter of which I did twice in two races earlier!) but it is very, very rewarding indeed when you can keep up with the supercars!

I'll echo the other comments :)

Handling is improved, there's more of a grey area between controlled drift and spinning out now. My inner chav is currently driving around in a bright green Focus RS with 4WD and 500bhp :D

i'm loving the game, handling of the cars is fantastic, i've got to grips with the design side i think so having fun that way

currently driving a Focus RS:

i love it

i wish i was playing it right now but i think my girlfriend was getting bored of me hogging the tv :(

well i was lucky enough for Argos to sneak my delivery in on Friday :woot:

so here are my impressions after the weekend (and approx 10 hours game play!

Firstly i love my girlfriend more than anything else - knowing my love of Forza and its release she arranged for my birthday present to be handed over a month early and was

one of these

OH MY GOD!!

It is quite simply the best improvement to my gaming experience ever!!

I always found the steering wheel was good and upped thr acing experience however a "clamped to coffee table" set up gave an awful driving position and i could rarely be bothered to use it.

I know it'd obvious but this has revolutionised gameplay!

i've spent more time sat in that seat this weekend than i have doing anything else (including sleeping :D)

Anyway the game.

Handling etc is awesome, especially with the wheel. Front drive, boot it into understeer and the wheels goes glassy light very impressive.

It looks amazing. It's not a huge step forward overall from Forza 2 but i reckon the extra level of detail, moutains on the horizons, more track side objects, more spectators, more texture to everything, more subtle damage to cars, really ups the game.

It sounds great. you can really hear all the different characters in the engine although the stupid "close up, rev and vibrate the screen" before every race start anoys me.

Tunnels are also a particular highlight.

The game itself is easier to navigate than 2 although the split betweeen season play and event list seems odd to me. Why would i wait for an event to come up in season play rather than going straight to it on the event list??

I have however found its far too easy. I'd done 2 seasons and about 10 events before i had to upgrade or buy a new car. and even on Medium AI difficulty my standard Focus RS seems about 10mph faster than the computers.

- All in all i'm very happy with the single player and am looking forward to spending the winter playing it.

now my main (and huge!) critism of the game.

WTF have they done to mulitplayer!!!

I spend ages searching th options to find where i created or searched for a secific room and eventually gave up. A quick search of the net revealed they deleted this option!!!!

Thread on the Forza website forum is here Forzamotorsport.net Forums - Turn10, make a statement on the multiplayer (Che post - page 3).

No longer can you search which rooms are available and join one of your choosing.

You simply do a search for "circuit race in S class" and it dumps into a room with a load of preset unchangable options!

At present the circuit races don't even go below A class - although this will apparently change when the game is realeased in the States tomorrow.

IMHO It's a huge error that could ruin the whole thing.

Luckily "private" games still feature all the customisaion you could ever want (plus more such as cat and mouse and Tag games) look forward to exploring those with fellow Briskdians soon!

I found the AI to lack... balls. Basically!

Where as I'd get the back end out and drift through an easy 20-30 degree corner, they would brake. And where I would ease off the throttle, the AI would brake.

Did you get my message on Live, by the way mate?

I am still awaiting my pre-ordered copy :( Bloody postal strike!

Luckily i got a copy from Tesco, and i am mightly impressed.

The graphics are average, but who cares once you get to the faster cars. At least we have solid 60FPS.

Im very impressed with the driving mechanics. Everything feels very natural, everything is very controllable (i only have ABS, no need for traction/stability). Only once you get to the R1/2/3 level, do you really begin to have any real issues with the car.

Having played a lot, i really do think this game was made for the Microsoft wheel. The controller is good, but a wheel is definitely required to grab those last couple of seconds off your lap time.

The problem with the Race cars is the same problem that real racing drivers have to deal with, things are coming so fast that you can't think fast enough in order to control it

Also, has anyone maxed the Veyron? Fastest I've got is 238 on the largest of the banked "test" circuits.

238? Pah 242 but I promptly crashed afterwards :D

This is with a pad, mind!

So I haven't got the millimetre perfect control of a wheel, it tends to jerk back and forth then shoot into a wall!

I'm still amazed at how they've captured the subtleties of grip and the sensation when it changes. When you're in a light mid/rear car, the horrible sense of inevitability when the front tyres wash out is amazing. I started off by switching all the assists off because I found that they tended to damage the handling, and the ABS is the only one I sometimes think about turning back on. Even them, that's only if the car isn't one that benefits from shifting the brake balance to point the nose in a bit more.

I'm definitely enjoying the street circuits, although six consecutive heats on the same track can get a bit dull towards the end, especially when the final rival is a pushover.

OH MY GOD!!

GEEEK!!

I think you also need to thank your mate for storing it in his garage and then dragging the bloody thing up the longest staircase ever! Cheers Joe!

I am now officially a Forza widdow, admittedly pretty much of my own making!! :thumbdwn:

Did you get my message on Live, by the way mate?

Yes mate seems a good plan although with all the new modes (cat and mouse tag drift etc) might be good to explore those before jumping into a league format again.

But as proven with the Forza 2 experience best laid plans and all that!! :D

Also, has anyone maxed the Veyron? Fastest I've got is 238 on the largest of the banked "test" circuits.

247 for me at the end of the Mulsanne straight on the old (without chicanes) Le Man layout although I did plough into a tyre wall at the end!

GEEEK!!

Love you dear! :couple:

Cat and mouse sounds fun. Explain?

Cat and mouse sounds fun. Explain?

Haven't played it yet as everyone has been a bit busy with the single player; but I know it was a firm favourite on the Project Gotham games.

In PGR the rooms got split into 2 teams

one person in each team gets given a slow low class car (the mouse)

and then everyone else gets high speed vehicles (the cats)

the mice have to reach the finish line

cats have to do whatever can to help their own mouse or stop the other mouse

let the fun ensue! :D

They've also stuck in an elimination mode where (i assume) the person who's last at the end of each lap get knocked out.

Basicallly they've taken all the good mode from all other racing games and stuck them in! ;)

I've not tried and multiplayer yet, so seems like a good idea!

Not tried Le Mans yet

Cat and mouse sounds epic!

not got a Veyron yet, but I've done not far off that on the 1 mile drag strip in my Datsun

Crossed the line around 230 on a 1 mile strip with the Veyron. There's no fuss with the big Bug!

just remembered another thing i maent to mention earlier.

anyone else done New York circuit?

I was surprised to say the least ;)
