New Skoda Octavia

Featured Replies

I can't wait...I pick up my new car next week.

Does anyone know of some thing that could/should be carried out on pick up?

Or, anything I should/could ask the dealer?

Plus, what sort of cable is required for an iPod being plugged into the Aux socket?

Many thanks,

An excited Skoda owner (next week).

How much fuel is in the tank? Mine didn't have enough to get me home! Good job I knew where there was a nearby filling station.

Good idea on a list of things to check/ask when collecting your new car. I'll be checking in the boot to make sure the spare wheel is there since I paid £50 for it!

I aslo read in the broacher you can get Skoda to sort out 7 days free insurance that will cover you driving the car home until you can get your insurance sorted out or swapped over from your old car.

I asked my dealer if they could throw in a full tank of fuel - he said they have £10 fuel token cards and they are supposed to put 1 token in each new car so you should have £10 of fuel in there. He said they might be able to put 2 or 3 in, but not a full tank.

I'm going to ask mine not to put any dealer stickers in the back window. It saves them time putting them in and me time taking them out before I even drive it away from the dealer. They're my pet hate - I can't understand owners who don't want to get shot of all this free advertising tat at the first opportunity. Also, try asking them to throw in some free mats - they can only say no.

Type in "3.5mm To 3.5mm" sans quotes into amazon & you can find them for under £2.

One of my pet hates too! I asked the same for my previous car and they still put them on!! another pet hate of mine is wonky no plates:mad: I really do think seeing (as I have seen plenty) expensive cars fitted with back no plates at an angle shocking and devalue the car:rofl:

Make sure you take it for a test before you hand over your cash, you can do this with a used car so no reason not to on a new one.

Check the body and paint work, look under the bonnet at the fluids and make sure all the electics work during the test.

Check its the right spec. The dealer ordered me a petrol not a diesel

I least I noticed ...

My mate drove off in his new car thinking it was the diesel that he ordered (but it was actually a petrol), ran it for a week then attempted to fill it up with diesel. You know how difficult it is to fill a petrol car with diesel when the pump nozzle won't even fit into the filler pipe.

He managed it! He only found out when his car conked out on the forecourt and he had to get the AA.

On my previous car part of the deal was a full tank and comprehensive insurance (couldn't get much in discounts, so that was the best of the options). I didn't get a full tank on my cars previous to that, but they weren't showing red on the gauge either! I think they should check your post code and give you enough to get you home and to a filling station. They're in the business of selling you *transport*! I know every bit costs, but it's just bad *business* cutting back to that level, especially with no warning.

I agree with Lozparry, Wonky number plates are my pet hate. When I picked up my present car it was the first thing I checked and they were straight. The dealer agreed with me there is no exuse for wonky number plates.

As others have said, make sure the spec is what you have ordered and all of the paperwork is correct. Carefully check over the bodywork for any dings or scratches.

When I get home I check all the fluid levels etc and go over the car checking that all of the features and functions are working correctly.

If yours is a diesel a litre of 'top up' longlife oil would be worth asking for if it is not supplied with the car.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.

I got my Octavia Estate L&K TDI 140 yesterday.

Very happy but some problems also.

1. Glue on the driver's door (inside)

2. Oil spots on the A beam

3. Unbalance when driving between 70-80 km/t.

4. Some sort of whining sound i the back when driving. More og less like a old light dimmer.

We where 2 when i pick it up to give it a more fine check and I had a checklist also.

Good luck with your new car! :)

Does anyone know how long the tyres will last, if I drive the car.....well normal driving I guess. Plus, what are the best tyres to get? The car I'm getting is a Octavia 1.6 TDI.

Give us a few picture of your car.

Doublej, my 1.6 tdi has Continental Ecocontact 3 (195/65 r15). From what I've read on the internet, this tyre shouldn't last too long. Eco meaning he's 'green'. On a Dutch forum, some say there are huge differences as to noice in the car, depending on what tyres you have.

I rang my dealer ref the IPod connection and I think for a mere £3 they are supplying me with a longer lead. Couldnt be bothered to go and shop for one. Rather just add it to the order etc.

If you are wanting to connect an iPod, you will need a 3.5mm jack to iPod connector lead.

I originally tried the standard 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead and pluged it into the headphone socket of the iPod, but the volume was way too quiet, and ended up having to have iPod and radio on full volume to be able to hear it.

I did a search of some posts on hear and was reconmended to get a lead which used the iPod connector instead of the headphone socket and it worked fine and quality was much better.

Leads are availalbe on eBay for couple of quid.

Ask for the DRL (next to fog light bulbs) to be activated. I chose to have my rear lights come on with them.

There are a number of options as you will see from earlier threads. I think they are a great idea on these dull mornings where visibility is not, strictly speaking, poor.

You may need to discuss with the dealer as some are not sure about the set up.

Rear stickers are easily removed when freshly applied. Clean the glue off with white spirit and do not rub the HRW elements too much.

Thanks guys.

I asked them (at the garage) what it was, when I got the car today. They didn't know, but now I do thanks.

I'm loving the car, I keep wanting to drive it :)
