Greem commission wants to increase New car tax by

Plus huge increases in fuel duty each year. Very wrorrying and I don't think the Tories will ease up against the onslaught on the motorist. Wonder what planet these people are on:mad::mad:

One , not accessed by car , thats for sure , the inflation that will cause , is nonsensical

I bet most of them have never left london, with it's very good public transport system.

Remember it was the Tories that brought about the fuel tax escalator ;)

Perhaps they charge their fuel on their expenses

And they have said that they would re-introduce it when they return to government.

Whatever you may think of Labour , the Conservatives won't mean cheaper motoring.

Didn't say either were good, they're all out of touch and using the motorist and lorry freight industry as a cash cow.

and homeowners, smokers, drinkers, workers....

I think you'll find it's £3000. Isn't it great, the government will give you £2000 to scrap your old car to buy a new more fuel efficient one, then this proposal would encourage you to keep your old one and not buy a new more fuel efficient one.

I know these are only "think tank" proposals, but left hand and right hand come to mind.

I'm generally in favour of measures that aim to reduce our overall fuel consumption, but for me the big issue is fuel availability & security, not "climate change".

From the BBC, 19th Oct:

Gordon Brown (our spineless PM) : "So we should never allow ourselves to lose sight of the catastrophe we face if present warming trends continue."

Andy Atkins (Executive director, Friends of the Earth, someone with a personal career interest in ensuring we are all scared of "climate change") : the environmental and economic impacts of failing to tackle global warming would "dwarf anything seen before".

But it's now known that the planet has started to COOL over the last few years (the signs are that we are in for another cold winter), meaning the predictions of the IPCC have been proved to have been based on completely innacurate computer models, geared towards pushing their agenda, i.e. getting us all scared and keeping them on the environmental gravy train.

Our climate has gone through ice ages and tropical periods before and will do again and there is nothing we can do about it, what you drive won't make a jot of difference.

My house is full of low energy light bulbs though ;)

I think they should dramatically increase the tax on Apple Macs, lattés, hemp and poster paint. See how the crusties like it up 'em!

Lattes cost a lot of energy.

You need lots of milk, a high "climate change" componenet due to energy used to produce and transport it plus the methane from cows.

You need a high pressure pump and water boiler for the coffee and you need lots of steam.

Black coffee or tea is much less bad and even they use a good amount of energy, especially coffee.

Do the maths, publish a white paper, job done. :D

How do you see when the Sun goes down? ;) They're STILL rubbish IME, and you soon won't be able to buy anything but. Still, let's ignore the fact that every 'wasted' Watt offsets the heating requirements of your house, and the fact that a filament bulb uses far less energy and resources in production, and is much less damaging to the environment upon disposal...
