Xenon headlights - from Julie

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have Xenon headlights on my month old vRS Fabia, and it appears that certain drivers are acting as though I am dazzling them, both when behind them, and driving towards them. Is this just a gripe people have, as they dont appear to be mis-aligned ? I have read letters in the motoring press in the past, usually from moaning old fogies complaining about Xenons.

Any thoughts???

Also, can someone let me know where I can download a vRS logo on the net?

Also, does anyone have more than one user in their household who is registered on this site? How do you go on with a second user being online? We only seem to be able to get Charles name up, even though I have my password etc from Colin..... So I cant register my details and get lovely emails of 'welcome 'from you all!

Cheers

Julie

Julie, the only way to get both users online at once from the same PC is I'm afraid to use two different browsers, i.e. Charles uses IE, you would use Mozilla or Opera. Failing that you have to log out and in.

Found of late alot less complaints about the headlights, as they become more common it will be us complaining about the dim illumination from others.

I get that as well, and I don't even have Xenons.

There is not much you can do so you will have to get used to it. I have the problem with other cars as well. It looks like they don't quite have main beam on, yet you still can't fully.

Have you tried adjusting the lights using the thumb wheel, next to the lights on/off switch. Mine is just off 2 towards 3. so the beam is not too high,

Its a beam level thumb wheel if you have the rear of the car loaded, the lights tend to lift up and blind oncoming traffic & this thumb wheel will move the beam down towards the floor.

Steve

Id check to see that your headlights are aligned properly.

They have to be done with diagnostic equipment so pop it into your local dealer.

I find too many xenon units cause blinding....and no I dont have them and nor am I a moaning old foagie.

Xenon beam leveler unit failures are a common thing in the Audi A3, octy might use the same unit?

I have Xenon's on mine and don't have any issues but if I did I just simply flash my main beam to show them they are not on full beam already.

P.S. Xenons are the daddy and I wouldn't buy another big car without them.

When I picked up my Xenoned Furby vRS, the dipped beams were hopeless, pointing about 30 feet in front of the car. My dealer re-aligned them so they are now about as high as they can reasonably go (the top of the beam is about horizontal).

I don't get flashed, so if you are it could be the left/right adjustment that needs tweaking, not the up/down adjustment.

How fast is the self-levelling supposed to react? e.g. is it simply responding to a heavy weight in the boot i.e. slowly, or will it adjust quickly when driving - say as you go over a hump-backed bridge?

The leveling systems takes a fair while to react, there would be no point it trying to level itself for every bump int he road, the lights would be up and down all over the place as they couldnt react that quickly.

The idea is loading etc when you swtich on the ignition the level sensors detect the back is lower and adjust accordingly.

I've often wondered what the adjustment technology uses as its "barometer".

Is it the inclination of the car? In which case what if you're parked on a hill?

Does it measure compression of springs for weight distribution, thereby making angle of road irrelevant? I seem to remember Jon saying something about realigning his xenons once he fit his KW3s...

BTW, Ross, you remember you cleared a couple of faults on mine, one of which was the xenons? I've since had a wierd thing one evening - the end of the light beam was about 5m in front of car, much too low. Got home OK, now seems fine.

But I also had that heater gremlin Colin was on about - heater was chucking out hot air, regardless of position of thermostat knob.
