Can any technical/mechanical minded people help?

I'm trying to find a 'check list' of what is changed and what is checked during each service, and at what interval. (Fab vRS 2005)

The info should be in the service book, but as far as I am aware the gearbox oil is not checked at all, at any service as the oil is meant to last the life of the car. Of course we all know this is not the case and it will need changing at some point, if only to improve how the gearbox feels.

:confused:I run a small garage/MOT Centre and I insist that we check the gearbox oil level on every service we do. I can understand the oil not being changed if it's designed to last the life of the car, but not ever checking the level is madness IMO. We also always take the wheels off during servicing to check brake pads too, shining a torch through the gaps of the wheels isn't good enough IMO and eventually makes the wheels more likely to be corroded to the hubs.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but sod what the service book says, I'd rather a service be done properly!

The official Skoda service documentation states

Service Q60 30,000KM Gear oil: Inspect level and top up if necessary (manual gearbox)

My service book says QG0, but the interval for oil check is correct, thanks Moggytech.

It appears mine was checked on its last service according to the tick in the box.

:)Well, for starters the customer is paying for a service, so leaving off one of the checks is out of order IMO. Also, servicing is about preventitive maintenance, so preventing future faults by checking/topping up fluid levels makes sense. A slow gearbox oil leak over a few years might result in the gearbox oil level being dangerously low, but there may not be an obvious sign of leakage....especially if the car in question has been serviced for several years by someone else that never checked the level!

Only takes a minute anyway....unless the bung is siezed because no-one's ever checked it!

:)Sorry if I appear to be ranting, the motor trade has a fairly poor reputation because of garages cutting corner/ripping people off....which isn't so nice for honest garages.

I don't have any leaks on my engine, but check the oil once a month.

You don't have to have a leak for oils/lubricants to reduce in volume, evaporation or the breakdown of its structure are just as likely to cause a problem.

I think that it is part of the 40000 mile service on the Felicia to change it, also for DSG gearboxes where they are fitted on other models.
