Mk5 GTI seat is in....

Recommended Posts

Singular as only the passenger seat is in.... Has been an interesting conversion.... The track was only 10mm wider with the MK5 seats, compared to the fabia, but that in itself was a real pain to overcome. In the end, the "adjustment" came on the outside edge where there is a sliding bolt. Cue much swearing, drilling, filing, etc and it's in. Quite a bit of carpet has gone, and holes had to be drilled to get a nut in under the metal, and then another one in the side to get a spanner in to hold it.... Still, secure.

Driver's seat another time, then engine rebuild time. Still enjoying 54hp of 1.0 litre micra POOOWWWWAAAHH!

Why don't you STFU! :P  I had to bail early so only know it's in by text.....

Some shots I did take though.

Some early adjustments needed to the rails....

How the seats look. Might give them a quick wash, but they're in real good condition (from an '07 GTI)

Comparison of height - (GTI seat adjustable though, for passenger as well :))

To the old seat (non-adjustable height wise)

*creapy voice* What's your favorite scary movie?!

Didn't have to make that extra hole in the end, had a cunning plan which involved a magnet, a washer and a mig welder. Perfection.

[scary] Do you want to die tonight, Sidney?!

Not that I'm planning to, but how easy will removal / refit be after this? The sound of "welder" makes me think you've made the new holes permanently and easily accessible.

PS: You don't get any royalties for the above photo! :P

Very easy, all fixings are captive just like originals. So who met a gory end last night?

Everyone in my house. I'm now the sole occupant. Better get on with the body disposal now - Good job the garden is nice & big. :D

Yeah - He specialises in restoring campers and doing up customs, hence the huge truck :D He also does a fair amount of work on my car, with the main garage I use being next door, only this time it's not me paying for it. :D

Anyone got dibs on the vRS seats? :)

Nope - but believe me (if you see my for sale ad) you do not want the passenger seat as it's subframe is FUBAR'd and the driver's seat cover is tatty (but structurally intact hence it being in my car)

The only good that could come out of it would be to remove the cover off the passenger seat, clean it right up and fit it to the driver's seat, thereby giving you one good front seat. I'm not letting anyone have the passenger seat - I'll remove the cover myself and dump the seat myself - for my own peace of mind it will never end up in another fabia
