Coolant Temperature - Fabia I

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 2001, Fabia-I, 8V MPI had the problem of the coolant temperature sensor either sticking to the left or coming back to life after stopping and restarting the car. I checked these forums and found Ap0gee's guide to replacing coolant temperature sensor here and replaced the sensor with a brand new one following the instructions.

http://briskoda.net/fabia-technical-guides/fabia-coolant-temp-sensor-how/66180/

But my coolant temperature sensor still doesn't seem to be behaving. My coolant level is close to max and I don't think its leaking. The only difference I noticed is that I started using the car heater recently with the winter coming in a bit.

Now my question is, if this is normal. Can using the heater effect the temperature effect the coolant temperature ? It seems unlikely to me partly because switching off the heater doesn't get the temperature back up again in a few min. And I do drive 60 miles at a go on a motorway. So presumably the engine has sufficient time to heat up again ?

Is it possible that my coolant sensor wiring or my temperature sensor meter in the dashboard control panel is the thing at fault ?

thanks

ak

Possibly the thermostat is sticking open.

had similar problem on my car, with mine the temperature warning lite kept coming on even though the coolent level was ok and the temp gaugue was in the middle,

turned out my coolent bottle had a gooey substance on the inside of it which was interfering with the sensor, so replaced the bottle and so far so good the warning light hasnt come on yet, so this may be something you want to consider doing. also do you have a problem with your car using a lot of collent/water as i have got this problem with my car

No my car coolant level seems to be steady. There seems to be no loss of coolant. The temperature gauge in the dash doesnt always come up to the middle even when having driven 60 miles on a motorway. Sometimes when stuck in traffic, the temperature guage does come up to the middle. Also the heater can blow hot air. And the radiator seems cold, fans not working when I checked at the end of a 60 mile drive at speeds between 50-70 mph.

I have read posts on this forum which suggested:

1. Coolant Temperature Sensor ( I have already replaced this part, ordered from Jorilly)

2. Thermostat with housing ( Need to check if this is the case)

3. Problems with water pump (Need to check this out as well)

Can anyone tell me how to find out which of the two, thermostat or water pump is the problem ?

rephrasing to a question

I have a spare coolant bottle I'd be willing to post out to you? I paid a tenner for it last year when I thought mine was on the blink but turned out to be something totally different. PM your address and I'll post you it free of charge if you like?

Thanks but the bottle was not the problem. Replaced the Thermostat Housing and it solved the problem for me. Now the car comes to normal operating temperature within the first 3 miles or city driving in the morning.

Thanks
