New camera advice

Featured Replies

Looking at buying a nice new camera.

Would like to spend no more than £250

For that i would also like to get a case/flash card and hopefully a second battery.

My choices seem to be between the Panasonic TZ6. Or the Fuji F70 EXR.

Both of these can be had with the stuff mentioned above for within my target price.

Like the look and sound of the Pannasonic TZ7 but i think it is out of my price range.

Some good deals on here :- Camerabox | The Professionals Choice For Casio Canon Fuji Kodak Konica Minolta Lexar Nikon Olympus Panasonic Samsung Sigma Sony Digital Cameras

Any users of these cameras care to comment.

I currently have a Sony DSC-H5 and whist it has been pretty good, it eats batteries and also it is too big in my opinion.

Cheers

I would be leaning towards the Fuji but have a look at the Canon Ixus range there are a few models within your budget. Stick with the well known camera marques, Canon Fuji, Olympus, Nikon etc. as the lenses are superior to that of others. The number pixels is secondary to the camera quality. All the supplied memory cards hold very few images so you would have to buy another, the good news is memory cards have grown in capacity and £20 will be enough for storing a thousand shots.

I had a look at the ixus range but none seem to offer the zoom of the two cameras i have mentioned.

I really want a 10x or 12x zoom on whatever camera i get.

I like the sound of the fuji. The exr thing seems to give good results but does drop the megapixels down to 5 or 6 when using this feature.

The panasonic seems to get good reviews too but uses battery power very quickly according to some reviews.

Thanks for starting this thread - it's been a while since I've been able to do this :-

PANASONIC FZ28 (or it's replacement now the FZ38)

Might be just outside the £250 budget, but would be worth every penny

I find the battery life is excellent, uses SDHC cards for huge storage capacity even at 10 megapixels

Not sure but thought the supplier link was slated on uk hot deals , do a search and see what feedback they get .

i have a tz65 , same screen as the tz7 but the vid is missing , quite rare tho.

just checked and a lot of camerabox stuff is supposedly grey import

Thanks for the feedback so far. I really want a compact though, not a bridge style camera. One problem with the Fuji f70 exr seems to be that it suffers from chromatic aberrations, This is also something i would like to avoid if possible. Any views on the Canon powershot sx200 IS?

pixmania , have the tz65 in stock for £205 , good camera

Don't expect quality photos using zoom lens X10 etc. there not worth taking. Compact zooms just don't cut it.

Notwithstanding the slightly bigger size, I'd still suggest a bridge camera - mine cuts it for me

Thanks for all the suggestions, I currently have a bridge camera and due to its size it really doesn't get used much. Brother in law has a DSLR and it is total overkill for most instances, IMHO, for example my daughter recent birthday party. lol

I have read some excellent reviews on the Panasonic TZ6 and TZ7. Also the TZ65 may be an option.

These cameras seem to perform well in all conditions including quite large zoom numbers.

I think it will be one of these i go for. The only slight dampner may be the battery life. If anyone has one of these could you please comment on battery life. If i need two batteries i may go for the TZ6 or 65 and get a second battery and a decent card all within my budget. However if the battery life is not too bad i will probably go for the TZ7.

Also why is it a problem if i buy a "grey import" ??

Comments please.

Can't speak for the later models but I've got a TZ3 and the only time I've run out is after about 350 shots including quite a few with the flash. Unfortunately I still had about 20% of the Geneva motor show to look at

I guess you mean buying on line is the way you are going. " grey imports" are not supported by the Manufacturers guarantee. Wether the retailer honours his after sales is always suspect, and the fact that all relies on postage and on line communication can be dodgy. I've done it this way and been lucky but there are some transactions that do go wrong.
