New clutch needed

Featured Replies

Gettig really desperate for a new clutch for the vRS now. Standard clutch just doesn't like big power and torque and is starting to go. Does anyone know of a company producing an uprated clutch for the faba vRS? I tried helix who advised they would make one but have started mucking me about with timescales etc any others?

Is the clutch out of the car at the moment? On previous projects, I've been able to talk motor factors into letting me have a look at the their stock. Clutch plates and covers are often of a standard size, so you can fit heavier clutches from one car quite easily to another.

For instance, a Ford Sierra pressure plate will bolt to a Morris Minor flywheel, with only a little bit of tweaking! I wouldn't be surprised if another VAG clutch could be fitted, almost as a straight swap.

Problem is the size of the clutch and the number of splines - I could easily get a smaller diameter clutch that would fit but I question whether it would be up to the job. Flywheel has to be changed as well as these dual mass ones fitted as standard are hopeless!

Are there several versions of the 6-speed gearbox, or just one? Do they all use the same size bellhousing? If so, there's probably something else in the VAG range that would fit.

Splines aren't quite so much of a problem: it's normally the force of the pressure plate that dictates the 'strength' of the clutch, rather than the friction plate. I used a standard Minor friction plate and a Sierra 1.6 pressure plate on a highly tuned (110 bhp) A-series, and never had any problems. Ultimately, I guess the friction plate's life may be reduced, but at least it gripped OK!

I've not heard of dual-mass flywheels: what's the idea behind them?

Sachs do a sintered plate clutch that will handle 370+lb/ft...

2 discs available:

1- Organic material disc ---- part# 881864 999980

2- Sinterized material disc ---- part # 881864 999969

1 uprated pressure plate:

part# 88 3082 999 753

Torque ratings:

organic disc + pressure plate 400Nm = 295ft-lb

sinterized disc + pressure plate 510Nm = 376 ft-lb

should keep yer busy for a while ;)

Ive heard Jabbasport can supply a Fidanza (sp?) uprated PD clutch and flywheel set, circa

I Have A Problem With My Clutch @ 13500 Miles, What Clutch Did You Fit In The End And Is It Any Good ?

Is the clutch a major problem on a vRS then?

Not on a std car normally no.

When I get my car Jabba'd in January, will the clutch suddenly decide it doesnt like being in my car? or do I just have to take it easy at lower revs?
