Buying back your write off

Featured Replies

Sadly as some of you may have read my Furby is dead.

Got anew car lined up in the shape of a P Reg golf GTi. It's in good nick but obviously we all wanna make changes.

To fund said changes i rang the insurance company up to enquire about buying back my wreck.... They asked for £1350.

I wanted to strip it down and make some cash - not possible at that price. Anyone had experience of this??

£1350 - that should turn a reasonable profit surely? The engine/drive train alone has to be worth it for a donor car?

Problem is i don't have a garge to take it to pieces.

Engine as a whole and the ecu would bea good price. the wheels are OK just need a light refurb, interior is fine. exhaust should be OK. There's platinum in the cat, brake will be sound

and then the rest for scrap value

But it's not viable for me and there's no guarantee that i'd make my money back is there!? *********************************

You know why.

People only normally buy back cars as salvage with the intention of fixing the crash damage and continuing to use the car. Its not usually economic to buy back a crash damaged car with the intention of stripping it.

can't fix this. too many bent pillars :(

Did it get written off as Cat 'C', if it did then that means they consider it fixable but to expensive otherwise it would have gone Cat B or Cat A which they would not let you buy.

You'll easily get your money back!

dont buy the golf, mk3's a ****e. handling is horrible.

If it's that bad, it seems quite a high price.

MIne was written off through vandalism, and i was offered to buy it back for around £975 if i remember.

In fairness, mine was a 53 plate high mileage one, but it was 100% driveable.

It's Cat D according to them.

Not wrried about the handling Boyced! Low n Slow is the new motto. Hero driving got me in this mess in the first place!!!

"Category D Insurance Write Off - the vehicle is economically repairable but other factors are involved that cause the insurer to declare the vehicle a write off. Perhaps the replacement car hire is too costly or it will take too long for a specialist part to be delivered."

Mmmmmnh!?

Cant be that bent then ?

Mine was a CAT C, due to the cost of paint repair etc..

Mine was a cat B - so only suitable for breaking. That's why it only cost me 10% of net book value, which in this fabias case, I'm guessing would be around £600-£700??

make em an offer - £949.99
