Window Tinting

Featured Replies

I am buying a car for SWMBO and the AA have just carried out their inspection and have advised that the windows are tinted however they are unable to tell me if they are legal or not.

I've done a little searching but haven't found anywhere I can take the car to, to get them tested, (don't want to get pulled over and be told they are illegal)

Does anyone know anywhere around the N/Yorks W/Yorks S/Yorks area that can test them?

The police... lol

Id say any tint of the front wouldnt be wise. So is there any tint on the front of the car? If so, chances are its not legal.

Whether the police would notice, is another matter.

Yes, there are tints on the front windows, they aren't as dark as the rear windows but would still like to get them checked.

Id say with 90% ceratainty that they wont be legal then fella.

Take it to your local traffic police station and ask them politely if they will check the tints for you. Be prepared to take them off if they are illegal though...

I'm prepared to take them off if they are illegal although I would get some more which let more light through as it does look much better with the tints

What car is it? any car that has factory fitted tinted windows (99.9% of vehicles) will be illegal if you add any more tint to them.

Very nice looking motor

On the question of tints, Adie at Tintz UK who fitted mine gave me the impression that pretty much any tint fitted to the standard glass would make it illegal, and i'm sure he wouldn't want to talk himself out of work :)

Yes, they are nice and illegal without even testing them!

Any 'extra' tint that is added to the glass will also be illegal im afriad fella.

Illegal AND an Mot failure.

Illegal AND an Mot failure.

They will only be an MOT failure if the testing station has a light meter, It has passed its previous MOT's like this.

I have spoken to a Traffic Officer this afternoon who has told me what to expect should we get pulled over with them still on and with the light testing devices costing £400-£500 each its down to the MOT stations to purchase them which they don't do. It will be down to the Police Force or VOSA to carry out a road side check.
