Lucky I fitted a Towbar to my vrs

i disagree with cyclists anyway, they dont pay road taxes and most of them are not insured. this post was not too find out who was at fault, I by my own admission was driving too hard for this corner, no beasts were hurt im not hurt and the hedge will grow back, what i was trying to find out should i fix it myself, split the cost or let my neighbour fix it,

and as too question my driving ability, i would welcome anyone to come and teach me how to drive better, but firstly they will need to be a better qualifed driver than myself!

yes i had understeer and over steer, but i wanted to get the car round the corner and the only way to get it to turn in was to touch the handbrake, and when i realised she was going round i lifted off the brakes and steered into the spin as i was taught to do.

now what would you do let the farmer fix the back bumper, split the cost or fix it yourself?

First I would get a quote, just to see how much its going to cost. When you get the quote, mention that you are NOT going through insurance otherwise they may bump the true cost of the repair. If its not going to cost a lot, then I would take it as a lesson learnt and pay for it myself, or if its going to cost a lot then perhaps go 50/50 with the farmer.

Thats not to bad, the scuff on the top should polish off, the bumper crack maybe fixable. Clean up the edges and some filler and it should be as good as new.

Looking at your other picture

The upper part of the crack, should once corrected cause the main split to sit level with the bumper making a repair straightforward.

Fix it myself, as i wouldn't have the nerve to expect anyone else (especially someone i known) to pay for something that i know was all my own fault.

I have yet to attend any driver training or skid control training where the advise is to lock the rear wheels using the handbrake

Now the answer to your question lies in with whom do you aportion the blame??

In all honesty if it was me I would be going through the emotions of thank god I am ok, followed by thinking 'I won't do that again' followed by well if the farmer hadn't allowed is cattle to roam then my actions wouldn't have been an issue. If there was a recent previous accident then was the farmer already aware of the hole in his fence allowing his cattle out?? If he was then he should have fixed it especially on a nsl road. If he hadn't been informed then I would say it was down to the previous habitants of the feild or the rozzers if it was reported.

But in all honestyif the farmer was offering I would take his money and run, but certainly wouldn't post on a forum about going 70+ and trying hanbrake turns  Or posting pictures showing me taking pictures whilst driving with the asr/esp turned off, a brake failure light and a management light lit up!!

LOL at most of this.....

Oh..... you do know towbars are not type approved for the vRS don't you ?

IMO this photo is not helping your case one bit, i don't think i need to explain why!

Blown bulb, ASR off and ABS fault I think. The last one will be an MOT fail.

All worthy of mention ,

BUT not what i was getting at.

yes the tow bar was fitted on the car when i got it and i do not tow with it as i have a octivia mkii 4x4 estate to tow with, and now the bumper is damaged i will be removing the towbar, on another point my car doesn't be on the road much, very much a weekend and track car. the farmer didn't know about the hole in the fence until after i hit the hedge, i think i will fix this myself i buffed the boot lid and the scrapes are coming out.

i can tell you that all bulbs are working, traction control can't be turned on and the abs doesn't work and the cel light just comes on and off as it likes

i dont know how to sort the abs and traction control out

kirkistown, mondello, bishopscourt race track

All worthy of mention ,

Here's a guess...

...the fact the photo was taken with the car travelling at 50mph?

Driver error really, I would have 5hit myself if I saw a herd of cows round a corner doing 70mph! lol

To be fair, we all drive fast on bits of roads we know well, forgetting that a cow/car/bike etc could be on the wrong side of the road...

The cows shouldn't have been in the road, thank god you didn't hit one!

Bumper can be fixed, worse has been repaired!

Just caught up on this - it goes from bad to worse! :Yikes:

Difficult to make out, but I think I've just spotted the word 'safety' on the tailgate

Missed opportunity for a Brisky BBQ I'd say...

Seemed appropriate with Top Gear starting again tonight

As a cyclist, can I just add I pay not only road tax for my Fiat, but also a second road tax for my second vehicle. As for other cylists, all my friends that cycle have either one or two road taxes to their name. We don’t ride 2 abreast either! Personally, I disagree with drivers driving too fast for the conditions and also beyond their limits.

Thanks Amanda - I knew there'd be another cyclist just around the corner

Sorry, did I phrase that badly ?

I was typing in high visibility pink so I should be safe. Hope you had your ABS caps lock working.

font may not be legal but thats hardly going to be a hazard on the road is it?
