I need a little advice on options

Featured Replies

I'm considering a vRS and I'm a little confused about some of the options:

Mobile Device Interface - what I'd like is somewhere to plug in a USB stick, is it possible with the MDI? I don't have an ipod etc.

Do you really need a spare wheel? It's been 6 years since I last used my spare wheel, what's the point?

I haven't decide whether I prefer the hatch or the estate, so is rear sunblind built in to the rear screen? Can you have privacy glass on the hatch?

Sorry for all the questions :o

Privacy Glass is Estate only but you could get a similar job at your local Tinting place for the Hatch.

MDI will enable use of iPod connector or USB stick but if you don't have an iPod you could just use the SD card on the radio.

I went for the spare wheel, I also have never used one for years but I don't trust that gunk in a can so for £50 I thought it was worth it.

No idea on blind I'm afraid.

Thanks for that, I'd forgotten about the SD card

Rear sunblind is a transverse cassette mounted on the rear parcelshelf, cost option £50

IMO definitely get the sparewheel

Now that you have said you have not a puncture in 6 years it will be sod's law that it will happen as soon as you get the new car:eek:

Last night I was filling the car up at a Tesco petrol station and this Volvo V70 came in and caught the raised area around the pumps with his front wheel. There was a mild thump followed 1/10 second later with a massive psst/whoosh as the all the air came out the tyre

End result a 2 inch flap of rubber and hole. Obviously no way a repair kit was going to fix it so he was stranded

Good point - full size spare then?

No problem - £50 and a bit of weight for piece of mind

After much deliberation I have finally placed my order.

Decided to go for the Petrol vRS Hatch in Candy White, Auto dimming rear view mirror with light assistant, Front and rear parking sensors, Spare wheel, Maxidot and Rear sunblind.

Nice one! Hanging on for a 10 plate?

I'm hopeful it'll come in as a 10 plate anyway. If not, I might hang on for it.

Sounds nice. Good choice of options. And the right call on the spare too IMO.

Why not go for the 170 CR diesel save some shekels in the long run on fuel

Cheers - still unsure if I should have gone for the Xenon lights and the leather, but might go for a re-trim at a later date.

I don't really do enough miles to justify the extra cost

Its far cheaper to get everything done at order time than to do it later, have a re think about what you would like then see what the dealer with bend to, don't forget the scrappage scheme soon ends so dealers will once again be struggling

I know. If the leather looked as good as that in the LE model then it'd be a no-brainer and if I chose Xenons it'd be for resale/gadget factor really, not based on my need for them.

Nice car. Auto-dimming rear view mirror and maxidot are really important little additions.

Sounds good to me.

Leather is one of the options I wished I'd have gone for, so the bespoke route now appeals. Has anyone had their Octy done? Seat Surgeons appear to have done several Fabias for owners on this forum with good reports ???????.

With regard to SD cards, the Bolero handles both SD & SDHC cards and for my MP3 players ( iPod & Walkman) I use the AUX socket with one of these cables:-

The Bolero's SD slot plus the standard fit AUX socket makes the £150 MDI option plus adapter to suit, superfluous in my opinion - unless I'm missing something?

I didn't order leather in the end because I'd rather pay another 400 quid or so and get a really nice bespoke leather from seat surgeons. They've done Mk2 Octies before. I've always been impressed by their work.

Peace of mind? Sods law being what it is & all that...

I'm more than happy to get a posh little compressore with a built in pressure guage as, to be honest, it's more useful. If I get a puncture, which is very rare these days, I just call out the breakdown service - that's what they're there for.

Cheaper cable available from Skoda

MP3 lead 150cm ZGB000035595 £3.20

£1400 Skoda option - do Seat Surgeons charge as much as 1.8K ?

I too wondered how much Seat Surgeons charge for a basic leather fit.

No, I would have been paying just under 700 for the factory leather on my VRS. IIRC, Seat Surgeons comes in at just over a grand for nappa?

You'll change your mind once you've had them. Once you'd had them, you'll never go back to halogens - it's like "who turned out the lights?"
