gremlins....

Featured Replies

I sit here between a rock and a hard place. Yes I want my snow-monster like yesterday though I'd rather wait until they sort out the production line so that the amassed yeti-gremlins are resolved at source, not by the customer losing time, engergy, patience and money in assisting the dealers sort out the gripes. I buy skodas because they dont rattle, squeek, throw electronic wobblies, and generally are sound. I keep asking myself the question, "have I made a mistake?". Only time will tell

All cars have teething problems :)

cheers m8!

I wouldnt expect teething problems having paid 20k for a car. First service time is soon enough to be returning to the dealer. IMHO of course.

It's a brand new car to market... there are going to be teething problems!

As one of the afflicted my take is this, yes paid a good deal of money and yes it would be nice if it never went wrong but as Babs points out this is a new design and no matter how much testing gets done a new car in real owners hand can throw up surprises for manufactures.

Should really learn my lesson though as the wife's Corsa is an early production Corsa 'D'. Currently had 4 air-con compressors through fault plus some pipework; a flexi pipe burst due to over pressure, new drivers seat base, radio and dash top display, both electric windows repaired due to a design fault, engine ecu re ghosted 4 times plus updated and the starter motor replaced due to recall (one of 3 or 4 recalls, lost count).

A new car salesman said to me recently that you should avoid new designs for the first two years of production. Would have to say that he's probably right but I still like my Snow-monster and have yet to see another on the road (probably see loads now I have said that) plus it's the most ideal car on the market to meet my current motoring needs.

Should mean the Fabia vRS will be fault-free ;)

Look on the bright side, you should expect a free wash and vacuum every time it goes in for a recall....I once had a new Volvo estate delivered, it passed factory checks, it passed pre-delivery inspection... so how come I was the first to notice it had 3 fabric... and one leather door trim ??? I cheekily tried asking for the other 3 to be replaced with leather ones but alas it was the leather one that was in error.

New car but... most of it is using tried and tested VW parts bin bits.Re the waiting...I want it now, but a part of me is undecided whether I want a late December 2009 registration or an early January 2010 registration and which will be better 3 years down the line for booking an MoT.For now I would settle for a build date (CR 110)tom

What did you expect! It's a Vauxhall......

Thanks Ray,

wondered who would come up with that one first. BIG GRIN

I'm affraid they do rattle, squeak and have problems just the same as any other product that's built to a cost.

Hi, IMHO is doesn't matter how much you pay for a Car - or what Marque - someone somewhere will say they never had a fault/issue with theirs, and at the same time someone else will say they never had a day without an issue.. A brand new car off the line, like any new piece of technology, (Computer, TV, other white goods, software - should I mention Microsoft !!!???) will have a higher risk of things not being quite right. But as "The Plumber" says - if its the only thing on the market that meets your needs then it's a risk you might want to take. I've had the privilege of many new Company cars down the years, Vauxhall, Ford, Volvo,Mazda family, VW,BMW, Alfa Romeo and Lancia. All of them to a certain extent had their teething problems. Ranging from the Lancia that went back just a day after picking it up for a "recall" where it burnt oil on the overrun, to the VW Passat that had an air-con fault from new that took 8 visits to fix (faulty connector). At the same time many of my workmates have had absolutely no issues at all. So whether you get a car that has teething troubles or not - is perhaps in the lap of the Gods, or Fate or the Skoda scheduling system..... Either way - I don't think it's any better or worse than any other company. Finally, if the quality of things were really bad - I'm sure the Reporters/critics etc would have slammed the car - as they have done with several other Marques - by now. But it seems the opposite is true, so this is what I'm hoping is the case whilst I wait for my Yeti to appear. Grahamar

Does anyone 'on the inside' know whether Skoda Auto/Skoda UK have some system for reporting back faults/niggles or is their attitude just 'bah, let the dealer sort it out'?

It would be nice to know that you lot going back and whinging at them will actually have some positive affect 18 months down the line when I come to order one :D

No rattles, squeaks or any other faults whatsoever with my Yeti so far.

Driven 200 miles since Friday on Motorway and in town.

One Gremlin that's rasied its head on my Elegance, When I switch on first thing in the morning (5 am)with my light switch set to Auto, my lights set their level, like they do on the Eligance. But my offside dipped beam fails to light up. If I switch of and remove the key, then start up again the fault vanishes. Not a big issue, but I know this seems common on the Eligance,

Re Corsa

I used to do some delivery work for Vauxhall in the late 90's and I could never figure out what EXACTLY the PDI people did. I would arrive to collect a car from PDI in Swindon and the dashboard would be three different colours, or there would be a HUGE scar across the display, or the brake switch would be flopping around loose; MADNESS!!!

Dont get me wrong, I like Vauxhall cars, but I would never buy one new!!!!

(Will I get banned for saying that??)
