Here are the top 20 firefox plugins... some nice stuff here. :)

I'm back on it but there are still annoyances, although 1.0 is much better than the last variant I tried.

Which bits don't you like, Nick?

what happened to the page change notifications? It was in 0.9 but its gone in 1.0

Hyou wanna leest? :guapo:

Having been using Avant for a while there's a few features in that that I like that Firefox doesn't have - there may be extensions, but I don't know:

1. Remembering my active tabs when I close it down and reopening them next time I start the browser (yes I know you can have multiple home pages in Firefox but that's static)

2. Having the option when I open a new tab for it to just be a blank page

... and annoyances ...

3. The infuriating way the cursor sits on top of the current character in textboxes

4. Its inability to download some plugins correctly - goes into an endless loop of telling you it's successfully installed, then telling you you need a plugin...

5. The way the download manager works, in that it disappears when downloads are finished (yes, even if you have the option ticked to stay present, you have to go hunting for the window), and the inability to integrate a proper one, like DAP for instance.

There are others but I can't remember them now, and, as I said, it's a shorter list than it used to be.

Nick.... ctrl+T brings up a blank tab for me...

and one of those extentions allow the browser to intergrate with a dap :)

I think there's an extension for that, but it's a shame it's not offered as a built-in option.

Ctrl-T opens a new tab that will be blank unless you enter a URL.... (I just know I've missed the point somehow :D)

As for 5, Ctrl-Y (IIRC) brings up the download window. Alternatively there's a nifty extension that shows all current and completed downloads above the status bar - you can see when they're finished, and right-click on them to open or delete them, etc.

All in all I think it's an improvement over IE, although expecting users to go off to the extensions website and install them (going on the basis of usually quite brief descriptions) is a bit naff. But I guess it's good that - as a user - you have the choice of how the browser works and can add to it's functionality if you wish...

1. There is an extension for this. Not sure of the name I've got it installed at home, but not at work.

2. If you press Ctrl + T or press wheel on mouse it will open a black tab.

Whats this other browser you've been using?

OK cracked ctrl-T, thanks. That was an option in the SingleWindow extension I have installed.

Looked at the download extensions - can't see which one but I'll have a play with a few when I have time.

Cheers. More extension guessing games then :D

Blank tab sorted as per previous post, thanks.

Avant - it's really a skin for IE but it has tabbed browsing. Some good bits, some bad ... the benefits are that everything that works in IE works in Avant (obviously). The downside is that it gets quite memory hungry if you have a few tabs open (but no more than the multiple IE windows that would be the equivalent).

Horses for courses. I still have to use IE to fill in my timesheets, for instance...

where would one get that from?

funny you should say that as I have the exact same problem also have to use ie for the helpdesk tracking system.

We have tried firefox here in the office, some of our corporate stuff doesn't work properly. The website seems to go through the motions and then gets stuck validating, funnily its in our time recording system to.

You might have an option to get extensions from the firefox menus, or go to the firefox website and look for the link to extensions.

At work right now so don't have firefox here (won't work anyway) otherwise I'd look up the address :)

I think you'll find this is because the pages you are viewing have been written to Micro$haft standards and not internet standards, so they'll only display/function correctly with Explorer. We have the same problem at work because the web developers are all MS certified

A good selection HERE too

Also, has anyone managed to get Firefox to open pages in a new tab from Outlook or when the URL is entered via the Windows Run box?? It's annoying that it keeps opening new windows. Takes away from the whole tabbed browsing idea for me!
