Towing a Motorcycle Trailer

Featured Replies

Hello All,I'm new to this forum. We've just replaced our old Peugeot 306 with a 1999 Felicia 1.3i, which we're pleased with. Althought we've only had it for 2 days so it's early days yet. It's done 27,000 miles and appears to be in excellent condition and well looked after if the service record is to be believed.I am considering fitting a towbar to tow a single motorbike trailer. I do a few trackdays and rather than continue to hire a van I thought about getting a towbar and trailer, especially as the next door neighbour has a trailer I could borrow. The towbar would seem to be easy to fit, but I'm a little worried about the extra weight. The car's not very powerful, and I wondered what effect towing an extra 300kgs or so might have on its limited performance.Should I save my money and put it to van hire, or bite the bullet and did out the spanners and isulating tape?Any comments and amusing ****takes welcome. Thanks, Z.

The felicia will, officially, tow 400kg's unbraked weight so it will be able to handle it no probs. What that equates to in real world driveability I don't know. It will certainly manage with ease the only place you will really notice is on hills!

Motorway driving might be fun too with you no doubt having to use lower gears on gradiants and to overtake but it will no doubt manage it.

Think of 300kg as like having 3/4 adults in the car.

I have towed a small caravan (650KG's) with a 1.6 - again fine on the straights, and down hill, just had to use second gear to get it uphill (Welsh ones!)

Leave the bike at home and take the Fel round on the trackday.

Other than that, it'll be fine - it'll tow 300kg without any serious issues, other than the expected lack of guts in places. Much better than hiring a van, you can spend more money on trackdays!

I get enough stick for riding a Laverda on track as it is. Mrs Z wouldn't countenance me taking the car on track.. She rather likes the wee beast. That;'s the car, before you start:-)

My only reservation about taking a Laverda on trackdays is that they're rare beasties :( and you might drop it and write it off.
