Condensation on windscreen

Featured Replies

My wifes 06 VRS seems to suffer from excessive condensation on the front screen on cold mornings.

Cannot find wet carpets, but assume water coming in somewhere - any ideas?

Cheers.

Try removing the pollen filter.

Try removing the pollen filter.

Will give it a try, not got a workshop manual yet: is it behind windscreen wipers?

Thanks

If you've air con this is where it really works wonders. Despite lots of posts on this topic, I still believe that for many sufferers (and I'm one), the problem is that the air coming into the car is moist and slightly warmer than the screen. However dry the car is it won't prevent the problem. A cloth with a little washing up liquid to wipe the screen and windows open is best I've managed.

It's under the passenger side glove box. Look underneath (passenger side fool well ) and slide the 2 clips into the middle, pull down, and remove the cover, the filter will then pull down......hope that helps

Filter bone dry - as is carpet below. Windsreen soaking though - it is worse than my Landrover Defender (not the driest of vehicles).

Never had this problem with last few cars - all Saabs though.

Will get her try fairy liquid and leaving aircon on.

Cheers

Exactly the same problem on my Roomy.

I have owned cars of many different makes and never come across this problem before.

Agree with Viewer - aircon works wonders.

Be sure to check the little drain grill on each end of the plastic panel at the bottom of the screen (out side) are clear of debry, if they block the water backs up and seeps in.. could be damp under the carpet.

The filter may be dry, But it's likely to be choked! A new one will cost about £6!

And it might be an idea to check the plenum is clear of debris!

My Fabia does this on cold mornings but only is the aircon was used the last time the car was used. My Octavia does it a little bit too.

Is it easy to tell if the pollen filter is blocked?

If the pollen filter is the type with carbon to remove odours, they look manky from new. Plain type should be pristine white if clean.

Yea, mine only does this when the air con has been used.

What seems to work for me is to turn the air direction dial to the feet position, then it doesn't seem so bad in the mornings.

Well it was -4c in Livingston this morning. Car was frozen solid, but no condensation or ice inside. I think leather interior helps, as seats don't absorb moisture from wet clothing. That and very clean windows inside and out. Clean plenum chamber and new pollen filter. Was impressed how good the heated rear screen is, and the heated mirrors. Only had to scrape windscreen and side windows.

Car has leather, had a good look round: offside rear footwell is wet - water appears to be coming from rear door/seal, suspect need to: My link

Car is still under skoda warranty (bought 9 months ago from a Skoda dealer) do they sort under warranty?

Cheers for all advice.

If it's an extended warranty I'm not too sure. Some have been done in extended warranty, others not, depends on dealer I guess.

Not a hard DIY job, a couple of quid for door clips (new ones seal better) and £10 for some Unibond 3 in 1 sealant, or roof and gutter sealant also works. There's a how to guide on here somewhere. Juts checked your link, that's how it's done.

Have you been attempting to use the rear wash/wipe since everything started to ice up?

I had the old damp carpet and iced up window problem last year, turned out a push together coupling in the rear washer pipe had parted in the c-pillar and was busy pi55ing most of the water down the side of the back n/s seat into the carpet! :wonder:

These couplings are a pain, I've had all three blow off at some point or other!
