Fuel Economy in Diesel VRS

Featured Replies

Having had 2.0 PD VRS for over 18 mths now I'm a little disappointed with economy. Do 70 mile commute daily half of which is 60mph crusing on busy A roads Mixed with some more lively B road driving. Average showing 40.5 at the moment. Previous Octavia 2 with 140 PD engine constantly around 50mpg How does this compare to other peoples experiences?

Having the same problem at the moment mate but have a good idea why. I only do 8 miles to work each day and im only getting ( max ) - 35.9mpg. It's sitting at 30.7mpg the now but thats because the numbers have just reset themself. However confident that will change to about the 35.0 - 36.0mpg mark within a few weeks.

Its gonna sting but I get 65-70 at 60mph on a long run in my Furby Vrs and my uncle gets 50mpg in a 2.0PD170 A6 estate, I suggest taking the back seats out, you'd be surprised how heavy they are and how much better your acceleration is ;-)

Getting bang on 45mpg (In the main M-way's and fast A roads) now in mine after over 13 months of ownership. When I first got the car with 15k miles on the clock was similar mpg to yourself, however as I approched 30k miles, it seemed to jump up to the mid 40's. On the odd occasion I see 50 mpg+ (really long run i.e. 250 miles)

Click on the MPG in my signature and you will find my economy from tank to tank.

Always fill it to the brim and once in a while use a 20Liter extra can.

Lot of long distance journeys with cruising in NL at 75-80mph and letting it go in Germany.

See mpg pic / link in my sig.

BTW, I worked out over several thousand miles that my trip computer figure is 3% below the actual figure.

I get 42mpg from a mixture of daily commute and motorways, I used to have an octavia tdi 130 which returned 50mpg

That is the problem with the newer DPF fitted engines, DPF costs fuel...

I only average just over half that. you should be happy

I get 37 average in my 170CR with 3.5K on the clock. My Punto HGT (remapped 150BHP) used to regularly show 50+, average 48 from mixed driving and I wasn't hanging around. I think the fuel economy of my scud is ****e.

My mate gets 45 in his 320 coupe and my boss gets 45 in his Scirocco. I wouldn't mind but he drives it like a complete **** AND its got DSG for christ's sake!!

DAMN I'd have thought twice before buying the thing if I'd known I'd have to wait until it covered 30K before seeing over 40mpg!

I used to average 37mpg in my passat PD170 but that is a heavier car so 40mpg sounds reasonable

How many miles is on it? A new, decent panel filter can realise a few more MPG in some cases. Also, what brand of diesel do you usually use? Same one everytime or does it vary?

Steve

My CR DSG with just over 10k miles is giving me about 47 on a run

A Tunit box pushed my MPG up from 37 to over 40 (44 on a long motorway journey) in my other car with the same engine and with 4WD. Car also feels so much "lighter" and driveable, especially at low (sub 2000) revs where this engine is really "lumpy" - at least in my car. Wish I'd fitted it earlier.

My PD vRS averaged 42 mpg over the time that I had it.

My CR vRS appears to be a couple of mpg better in similar conditions (but it only has 1100 miles on it at the mo so I expect this to improve over time as it frees up).

Mine (manual vRS estate CR 170) used to do about 47 mpg on a long run, now improved to 51-52 after 10,000 miles. About 42-43 in town. That's about 2 mpg worse than my previous Golf PD 140 TDI estate - given the extra performance and seamless delivery of it, I'm more than happy.

I don't know whether your driving is town or country, but 37 is about what my trip computer shows if I've driven only about 5 miles from cold. If your mileage is mainly long runs, the dealer ought to check it out. Do a brim-to-brim check first in case it;s the trip computer that's at fault.

On a 44 mile round trip of rural A roads, driving 50-60mph, I'm getting 37mpg,( measured brim to brim) from my 2.0 TFSi vRS!

My wifes getting 44.9mpg from her PD vrs on a 25 mile a day round trip. Not to bad id say,its a 57 plate and its just done 7000 miles so iam hoping it may go up a little bit?. On a long day out in the summer i had 55.7mpg on a 200 mile trip, that i was very happy with.

to be fair the skoda is a fair bit heavier than the punto, compair that with my fabia remapped to 180bhp which would return a very impressive 60+ on a run and dropping to about mid 40's around town. So I would expect the octavia to be lower.

Having said that to start with my fabia was not that great used to get excited that I returned 50mpg but once it hit about 40k it improved ALOT. Diesel they just take so long to bed in.

Also maybe you are used to driving your punto and the octavia requires a different style to get the most out of it. I know that I could never get as good mpg out of my ex's 1.4tdi as she could as it was a different driving style required to the fabia.

sounds similar to me. I do a 30 mile mixed driving round trip each day and average about 40 mpg although the cold weather seems to have made it worse. I only seem to manage about 38 now :S

SWMBOs 07 plate vRS TDI on 15k returns about 46mpg on a decent motorway run, 42-44mpg on A and B roads, I managed to get it up to 56mpg on a VERY gentle motorway run after playing fuel light bingo a bit too long which resulted in driving 20+ miles on zero miles range.

I'm getting the right side of 40 out of my vRS with its DSG box and 15k on the clock.

Yeah it >IS< heavier but I really drove the "Pasta Rocket" like I stole it - it had nothing off boost so you temded to overdrive the thing a bit more than the Scud which has excellent off boost flexibility,. That said I >do< toe it a bit in the Octy but having driven it like a grandad as wel there doesn't seem to be much difference. I genuinly expected, and indeed feel as if I have a right to expect in excess of 40 - 42 on mixed driving. My commute is 8 miles - 2 miles of 30mph stop start with 1/2 a mile of traffice followed by 4 miles of fast A23 and 2 miles of 60 / 40 / 30 country A road. Sometimes I have to go to Gatwisk which is a round trip of 28 miles fast A23 and sometimes I might have to nip up to somewhere like Bedford which is all motorway. I have only once seen 43 mpg on the clock after 300 miles of motorway running. I reckon thats crap and just not good enough for a latest technology 2.0 diesel, DPF or no DPF!

I'm actually considering getting as remap done ASAP in an effort to improve things a bit. I saw an 8% improvement after getting the Pasta Rocket done by Angel..............

I have a VRS TDi estate on an 07 plate, now done 46K. On my routine 33 mile each way, journey from Leeds to Oldham each day I have a 22 mile stint on the M62 followed by 10 miles on B roads. Trip computer usually averages 48mpg. This is perhaps a 5mpg improvement from when the car was new.

I recently did 350 - 400 mile in one day driving from Leeds to St Neots (Via Bristol, Northampton and Bedford) in the same day. Trip average was 54 mpg.
