Day 4 of owning vRS FL Combi

Featured Replies

Hi guys, before I get pestered for pics, my digi cam is with Fuji as its got a busted image sensor, anyway here is a quick summery of the spec. So far done about 150 miles, got the car from Marlborough Skoda (DtD).

2L Petrol FL Combi, DSG, Race Blue, Xenon, auto lights/mirrors, sunset glass, heated seats, Bluetooth and maxidot, sunroof, silver rails, F&R sensors. Also had VentureShield fitted at the dealer by a mobile contractor.

I have fitted some vRS mats from ebay, they are finished with blue edging and are better quality than the supplied mats which are very flimsy. I put these in the boot, under the Autoform boot liner. I also fitted a Richworths vRS Tax Disc holder finish in gloss black and stainless steel vRS logos on the seat levers. I then fitted the interior LEDs from Super skoda, I also fitted the chrome drinks holder trim as well as the leather arm rest cover they do. The jumbo box is leather covered but the extra cover makes it more padded. I also fitted the engine bay trim and front mudflaps and got my Shell Top Up kit in the boot with some Skoda Screen Wash. I mix this with distilled water to prevent clogged jets and lime marks,

I then fixed on my seat belt vRS pads, again from ebay, not had a chance yet to fit the Philips xenon fog light bulbs nor my Skoda plate trims, should do these next weekend. I also have a set of blue vRS logo'ed seat covers and tried them out, fine.

Today I washed it, sealed the alloys with PB wheel sealant, also sealed the glass with Carlac 68 kit, also sealed the leather with LTT Ultra Protect, and polished the interior glass with Carlac. I did notice a lot of film buildup and misting which is now gone! I also gave the paint a wipe down with some Megs #135 and also washed the engine bay to remove water spots and then wiped down with the #135. This stuff is a general synthetic detailing spray used after wash or on external trim to remove water marks and to leave a little protection.

Next weekend I shall clay the car, and apply, via machine, some Clearkote Red Moose Glaze and then their Yellow Cream Wax, followed by hand, two coats of Collinite 845IW wax.

Good points: Bluetooth works fantastic with my HTC TyTN2 WM 6.1, alloys look great and pleased with the DSG and the colour. Build quality is great, also the stereo sounds good, plenty of grunt and smooth ride with low levels of tyre noise. (yes, I have Dunlops!)

Bad(ish) points: No power folding mirrors!!! LEDS do NOT function on the numberplate lights, brings on the warning. Seats are taking a bit of getting use to, the sides do dig in a little, tried the seat well back but the wheel does'nt seem to move forward enough, so got the seat one notch closer and helps. Also brake pedal is quite high. Another annoying thing is the heated mirrors don't come on with the rear window heater.

I have switched off the Leaving Home lights as it would have annoyed the neighbours when i am in and out of the car, otherwise that's pretty much it! I do have a briskoda sticker on, anyone else in the North Surrey area with a new vRS????

Questions:

How long did it take you to get used to the vRS standard seats? I got confused and so did the dealer, when i tried to order rear flaps, anyone else had this issue? When you pull up and the lights, not on a hill, do you (should you) pop it into N and apply handbrake or just shift into P. I got the Nov suppliment, have the arrow for gear change but not sure if I have XDS, I do have an oil temp on the maxidot. I have a large sticker with WARNING No jacking or Tie down on this Rear Axle Beam and also there is a table to fill in for "Record" and "Brake Fluid Change". Its got a part number PL19172. What do I do with it??!

Future Plans: Only weather permitting, to machine polish it to bring out a little more gloss and flake.

BIG thanks to everyone on here over the last 6 months, previous car (up for sale) is my Mazda6, a poor UK Mazda forum and only a US based forum is available so its great to have such a popular UK forum for the brand.

Pics to follow when the cam returns.

Or four seconds for the reply :giggle:

Keep up the good work m0bov - if you can't put the effort in when it's a brand spanker then you'll never manage it when it gets older eh?

QRK 5 for me!

Still polish and maintain my old motor, alloys are still spotless and no dings or scratches, start as you mean to continue I say!

Oddly enough I had an Octavia supplied from Marlborough via Lombard vehicle leasing and the floor mats that were supplied were utter crap, they curled up at the edges and were promptly thrown in the bin when the drivers mat fouled the brake pedal. The genuine Skoda mats in my L&K are miles better and I only wore through the drivers mat at about 100k.

I have found the seats on all three Mk2 Octavias to be problematic, specifically the bolsters. I have found they wear in over time and become less annoying, especially on the vRS. the L&K has electric adjustment which means you can raise and lower the front of the seat base as well as the rear of the base which helps me a lot.

Nice car with a very nice spec too - enjoy it.

Oh one thing, someone on here said there are no side light bulbs when you have the vRS DRL LEDs, well, mine does! There is also a blue 501 type bulb, not worked out when it comes on yet!

Also, how do you remove the bulbs in the Combi's boot? Also the door card lights. Ta all.

Great detailed write up, very interesting read. Thanks

Look forward to the next one in four days time

I'm getting the factory Bluetooth option. How do you visually tell that its fitted, is the roof aerial slightly different with a fin in front of the whip? and is there a box under the drivers seat?

When stopping I would just put it into 'P' and apply handbrake.

When I get my new VRS in January my plan is to get the dealer to do absolutely nothing in terms of body prep and polishing. I am going to have it deatailed professionally the day after collection

Good work - that's some going

Interested to hear you've got the VentureShield. I'm considering this for my new vRS. I need to bombard you with questions... :)

Who fitted it?

How much?

Are you happy with the results?

What did they do to cleanse and prepare the surface before fitting?

How noticeable is it? - Does it look good enough to go on a show and shine car?

Is the pattern accurate? - did you go for bumper, hood and headlights?

Any chance of a decent resolution photo or two, perhaps a overview shot and a close-up, showing the border of the film / bare paintwork.

Thanks,

Nick

seat wise, are you a big framed guy. Im im 5'9 and 13 stone and find them perfect for me, if i was a bit broader i might have an issue. they should soften up id have thought.

a point to know is the side bulsters get a lot of rubbing so they need periodic leather tratment, to keep them supple, wouldntlike to have to replace them or reupholster them in the future) etc.

would be a nice feature to have the heated mirrors come on with the rear window heater, but its not to much of a chore

Just quickie, me is about the same, go to gym and all that, so not "fat" but suppose heavy ish if you kno what I mean. Done the full LTT treatment with their Ultra Protect. Nite!!!

The newer fog lights have HB4 bulbs instead of the H1 in the pre facelifted version.

Power folding mirrors are a cost option (but also understood that Skoda UK doesnt offer them as an option?). To sit right in these seats, you will have to sit pretty upright. At least that helped my seating position, no problem to do >1100km stints now. The heated mirrors are always on, but you will have to leave the mirrorknob at the "heated mirror" position.

Picked my car up at a dealer over 500km from me, so had to find a good position. Didnt take too long, as I always sit pretty upright. If you mean what to do when you stop for the lights, just leave it in D and hold the brake. Sticker and table should be something your dealer has to do....

Bulbs in boot and in the door cards can be taken out carefully with a screwdriver. LEDs wont work since the interior facelifted version, due to other controllers in the car. Can be overcome if you solder an extra resistor to it. (just checked the german board, they already tested it with good effect: 68 Ohm).

The "No jacking" sticker goes on either one of your rear suspension beams (look under the rear of the car) and the "brake fluid change" sticker goes on the battery box to the right of the engine cover under the bonnet.

As m0bov said though, your dealer should have done this before you picked the car up.

just leave it in D and hold the brake

Please don't do this!! :wonder:

Put the box in N whilst waiting at lights & put your handbrake on! ;)

This way the motorist behind you won't be blinded by a face full of brake lights whilst you wait.

With high level brake lights nobody is immune to the 'Red Burn' but when you drive a little sports car like I do you start to see 'Red Lights' when you close you eyes at night!

Thanks!

YES!

Dunno!!

You can see a faint line under low light, particulary on the bonnet, but its better than chips I suppose.

Yes, all bumper, lights (inc fogs, LEDs), mirrors, top of rear bumper and rear arches.

Yes, now have the camera back so will take a few snaps during daylight.

A few pics, gave up trying to get the uploader on the forum to work and used flickr instead, not sure how well it works though.

Oh &^&£^&$^, now it says extention not allowed, well, if you want to see the pics, go to Skoda vRS pics for Briskoda Dec09 and view them there.

Cheers all.

Oh, got one working, well, only taken me 1hour but still got a grey box with Loading... all the time. Anyway, the holder came from ebay and gives me a nice screwless plate look, the front is the same.
