Nearly there but a few questions

Featured Replies

Hi my car is sat at the port and nearly delivered but i have a few questions before i pick it up.(first week in Jan)

1, I'm in the army in Germany so i will need European lights. i can get a set for £300 but does anyone know how easy they would be to change? A few cars i know of including my current BMW need the bumper removing to do this. If not the UK dealer i am using is asking for double that amount.(I'm pretty sure there are a few soldiers on here from Germany)

2, Also the garage has asked for £50 to set both rear fogs on (again for Germany), is that about right and if i ask him to turn other things on or change settings will i be charged for each change?

3, Can beeping seat reminders be switched off somehow??

4, I never speced sunset glass but would like my rear glass tinting at some point, what is the percentage tint of the oem sunset glass to make it look factory fit and not gangster.

5, Is maxidot standard with multifunction steering wheel and bluetooth? (I hope so!)

I know i have more questions but as soon as i started typing i forgot most of them, the light one is the most important though!

Cheers for any help, These are great forums by the way!

Not sure on the facelift model, but on the pre facelift car its possible to change both headlights in less than 5 mins, a thumbscrew and lever, then disconnect wiring.

Cheers for that i really hope it is still that simple, then i can just buy the £300 ones!

I remembered another question,

I have been reading that some of the new scout owners where surprised that they had electric folding mirrors, and also that you can't get them in the UK because of different wiring looms. If they have started to put them on the new scouts what about the new VRS's. Any chance?

Thanks again!

£50 for both fogs? surely its a few minutes with the laptop? Why are they trying to charge for an hour's labour?

hours labour is double that, but if you go and see shark_90 of shark peformance he'll sort you the fogs out for less than that, failing that, look for a kind hearted memeber on here that has VCDS/Vagcom

I would love to get someone else to do it but when ever it is ready I am just going to fly over pick it up and drive it back to Germany. Nice long drive in a brand new car! Hopefully there will not be too much snow then!!

The garage fitted my lights, set the 2nd fog light, the cornering lights and the DRLs, all for less than 50 euros. I thought it was pretty reasonable.

That is very reasonable! i would be happy with that. Where did you buy the lights from and what garage did you use?

European lights?

If you have Xenons, you will be able to adjust the std lights to european without having to change them.

IIRC you can also change the normal lights to european spec.

IFAIK no need to change the light clusters. (you can read it in the manual, there is a link to the english online (pdf) manual)

I haven't speced xenons but all that does is flatten the beam anyway. uk headlights kick up to the left and european kick up to the right. we used to be able to flatten the beam a few years ago but now we have to have lights that will kick up to the right whilst we are over here, and they do check!

Thanks though

Also is the car supplied with 2 remote keys or only 1 and a normal spare?

Also is the car supplied with 2 remote keys or only 1 and a normal spare?

My 2.0TDi Elegance Estate I collected 2 weeks ago came with two remote keys. One thing that got me with the keys was one press of the button only unlocks the driver's door. You have to give it a second press within 3 seconds to unlock the other doors. I was wondering why I couldn't get into the back door until my colleague with a Superb told me what to do.

I'm sure I've read on here somewhere that you can change the way the remote opens the door as you described by changing it in the Maxi Dot

I used the garage in Isselhorst. The headlights cost 119 euros each, but I think the VRS lights are more expensive.

Perfect!! I think as long as it is a facelift model the headlights are the same. Isselhorst isn't far at all i'll probably have a drive around tomorrow to see what they say.

Thanks for that, its just what i needed!!

No probs.

jealous, i just came back after a long spell out there. the lights are really easy to change, literally has to clips that release, a quick look at them and it will become obvious.

tell them to f*ck off. i got my car from cars direct, who suppkied via dennis horton skoda in lincoln, then sorted out my rear fogs FoC, i believe all it entailed was putting a lamp in the opposite side and using VCDS to activate it,

Who have you bought it from

3, Can beeping seat reminders be switched off somehow??

Again with VCDS, the dealers should be able to do that, if not and Vag dealer should be able to do it in a couple of minutes

send me some tax free fuel please. I miss my V-Power Racing 100ron fuel

As for lights, pop into your nearest reme LAD, and speak to the german employees, they normally have contacts who can get this stuff cheap. just make sure any motors for raising the lights are included etc.

also try the sixth snense paper, always a few on sale in there

Cheers, but i will probably get the garage to do it if they are only going to charge 119 euro per light.

I've gone through forces cars direct too but the car is being supplied through motorline skoda in kent. Again if the garage is good in isselhorst then i'll get them to everything!

I've been checking sixth sense alot but i don't think the facelift headlights are filtering through yet, the tax free fuel is great i really feel ripped off everytime i go back to the UK now!

Thanks for all your help!!
