I know this has been done a million times but can somebody help? my question is whats the best all round tyre for my octy its a 2.0 tfsi producing somewhere around 260 hp, its fitted with 225/ 40/ 18 dunlops at the mo, money is not realy a issue but i do want some left after buying 2 new tyres. ive got the chance of a pair of pirelli pzero rossos are these any good? I do drive the car hard as my current tyres have only done 6k on them, i would love some feedback from you guys as to what you all recommend. Many thanks for any help Phil.

vredestein ultrac sessantas, also excellent in the wet. comparable to eagle F1 assymetrics and pilot sports, yet alot cheaper. there was a shortage back along, due to the amount of people getting them though.

quite a few of the Ed 30 GTI guys are using these and rate them, and they are pushing out 50+HP more than you.

I had them fitted then immediately drove to the ring(94 miles) and they were immediately providing better grip than my toyo t1Rs had ever done. i will 100% get them again.

I'm currently using Toyo T1-R's which I enoy a lot when the time is right. Excellent in all weathers, although I haven't used them in snow yet.

But the tyre of the moment seems to be the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. An excellent all round tyre with good wear rates. Simonsheil on here uses them on his Evo X and says they're brilliant.

I've looked at this site a few times and seems to be good for reviews.

I'm having this dilemma at the moment too. I think I'm going to go with the Vredsteins although a certain parts adviser we both know doesn't think they'll be any good. Having said that I've been in two vRS Octavias and a Passat with them on and they do seem rather good to me.

My Dunlop Sport Maxx have been OK but they really have gone off in the cold weather, I won't be using them again.

glad yours were ok, mine were rubbish.

for the first 100 miles the car was like a death machine. understeered so bad, i actually checked all my suspension for something loose. and that is no exageration. i then drove a 350 mile motorway journey where in the early part of the journey they were the same, you literally cpould not apply the accelerator anything but gently.ter that journey they seemed to be scrubbed in and grip seemed good. however at the nurburgring they overheated whilst going around the track(it was also about 35 degreesambient though), and grip was diabolical until i let the car cool down.

The vreds with only 94 miles on them, outgripped the T1Rs when they were at their best. Although the t1rs wernt to bad once scrubbed in, and were ok in the rain. (very good with standing water) they wernt in the same league as the vreds.

maybe i had the runt of the batch??

@ vRSY I'd heard a few people comment on the Toyo's in them same way as yourself, but mine have been good IMO....not that I'm Jensen Button... The price for them at the local fitters made decide to have them, although I seriously thought of the Vredesteins.

@ Shark_90 I definately noticed how bad the Dunlops are in the cold, light right foot esential. I even tried a different breed of Dunlop than was fitted originally and they were no better. I don't feel they suit the Octy at all, as mine went out of shape.

I wasnt impressed with toyos (T1S), nor pirellis, but was massively impressed with Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD2 and GSD3 and also found that the Vred Ultras were an excellent comprimise in cost/performance,

I too think my "Dunplops" have definately gone off in the cold weather, its a toss up from what ive read of you guys and the research ive just been doing wether to go for the vreds or poss the goodyear eagle f1 asymmetrics, Any further thoughts? bearing in mind i am only fitting 2 on the front as my rear tyres are good.

pretty much all summer tyres lose a massive amount of performance below 5-7 degrees C. the rubber compound hardens thus the contact patch no longer twists and provides the grip.

thats where winter tyres come into theier own. they can go toa lower temp before the rubber compound goes to hard in the cold

Have you considered Uniroyal Rainsport 2?

I have them fitted to my vRS. They are quieter that the OE Bridgestones but still a little noisy, and the agressive v pattern seems to make the traction control work hard as they want to spin. However lateral grip is excellent and (although this isn't that important) they look lovely and are very reasonably priced.

I've had 2 Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas on the rear for about 6 months now and i'm so impressed with them i've just bought 2 for the fronts as well. Ive tried just about every performance tyre over the last 12 years and these are as good as anything ive had on before. Very impressive in the wet. You can get them on camskil in that size for £85.

have a friend back home in plymouth with them and he thinks they are excellent,

I have Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas and they IMO are the best all round tyre. Just had 2 new fitted to the Front to replace my Avon ZZ3 which werent too bad but Vred are better

Vreds - had them on for a while now and if you look at previous posts of mine, you'll see I'm not adverse to evangelising about them!!

Seriously good tyres and knock most things apart from the silly money premium hoops into a cocked hat.

I have Michelin pilot sports on mine and have to say that they are very good, ran my S4 avant on goodyear assymetrics which are also excellent. The michelins have also been pretty good in the snow.

another vote for the vreds here - got two on the front a year ago & performing/wearing well !

I'm pleased with the wear on the Vreds too. I've done 9000 on my fronts, giving them a bit of a hard time sometimes and they look brand new.

Go for the Vredestein's, you will not be dissapointed! Had two sets an my Vrs and the confidence they give is awesome.

I always used to go for Michelins Pilot Primacys but have to say my current Dunlops seem to be much better in the snow and feel more assured.

Got 2 vreds on the front a couple of weeks ago ( 18 inch ) seem quite good in the wet but rubbish in snow or ice.

See my sig

Will definitely buy them again as and when necessary - A1 performance and almost budget money

I've just put four Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas on mine having had them on my last vRS where I was really impressed with them. I wouldn't use anything else now.

I notice a lot of people changing their tyres in 2s as opposed to 4s. I've never liked the idea of tyres with varying grips so regularly swap mine round to enable me to change them all the same time.
