Have VRS' suddenly become expensive to insure?

Featured Replies

I'm 30 - 13 years driving experience with only 1 crash throught the insurance like 4 years ago. The VRS costs me £536 this year with 4 years noc claims and all mods declared with an unlimited mileage policy. I live in the middle of no where up in Scotland. Why the hell is my premium so much!! My P reg Polo 16v with a few body and engine mods is about £480 this year too!

Oh well!

£536 is well nasty considering the worst thing likely to happen in Crieff is hitting a sheep :) !

My price is down to age and postcode im geussin as my twingo was only a 1.2 and was £700

I think my problem is the 18k annual mileage - that's commuting miles rather than business.

I have found one quote of £302, but it's from some outfit I have *never* heard of before, so it might be time to suck it up and pay the new norm...

Admittedly not a FabVrs but this year I'm struggling to find much cheaper quotes than last year, maybe a case of insurance quotes going up in general.

Strangely I did a quote in the summer to get an indication of what my quote would be and now I've come to actually buy next year's insurance, the quotes are a good £100 more than they were a few months ago.

Actually i hit a deer doing around 60 in the VRS in July - well made a mess. Fixed it myself though. No point going through the insurance and getting bummed for it next year!

I'm being had for the fat lad then. How the bloody hell am I being quoted over £400 when I'm 50 with 8 years no claims.

You must live in a ropey area, or a nice area next to a ropey area :)

Have you tried looking on a price comparison website?

These huge prices are due to age and postcode though. Whatever you are looking to insure under the age of 25 you seem to pay a huge premium.

Yeah 19, no NCB :(

Nice area next to a ropey area (Nelson) :'( . Mine's not due until May. But I'm going to have a good look round then.

Even worst then! Have a look on confused.com and then see if the cheapest companies are available via quidco.com and get some cashback as well.

Costs me £135 for the basic policy :p £210 once I add the extras like protected no claims, courtesy car, legal cover, accommodation.

Being an older fart helps
