horrible clunking noise

Featured Replies

I’ve started getting a horrible clunking noise from my offside rear when i go over bumps my car is still under warranty until end of next month, the sounds seems to come from not the shocker or spring its more under the back seat if I make any sense, if any1 does have a idea what it could be would I get it done under warranty,

Many thanks

Rich

rear seat latches can make a loud noise, drop the seat back down, then give it a drive, if no noise, you've found the problem

could be something loose underneath though, shocker lower bolt maybe

No wishbone at the rear. Do you mean the trailing arms of the back axle? Could be rear beam mounting rubbers breaking up, or simply dry, you can spray them with white PFTE grease. It protects the rubber and stops any creaks etc.

Also worth checking exhaust hangers, and dampers for noise. They sometimes creak if they are running very dry. It's normal to get slight damper oil seepage past the seal, in fact it's preferable, if the damper system is bone dry, they can make a fair old racket.

sorry i got abit confused, yeah it sounds like its from the back trailing arm is there any brand i need for PFTE grease

I am still trying to isolate an annoying noise too from the rear. Apart from seat latches mentioned earlier, the tool kit inside the rear wheel is a source of noise. My next step is to remove the rear seats and parcel shelf, and the spare wheel and tool kit too, then try driving over speed humps with someone in the rear listening for the source of the noise.
