Renaultsport Clio

I am thinking of buying one of these for trackday fun. They are now obtainable for £2000 or even less these days. I'm thinking of ready made handling and power and not having to uprate everything. Are they a bargain at this price? I don't mind a tatty one or even one that needs mechanical repairs. What you all think?

which one did you have in mind?

Do it! :D

Go for it, you will not regret buying one

i'm guessing a 172 if you're looking at that end of the market. an absolute bargain, never realised theyd got so cheap. Wonder how much a 182 trophy can be had for now?

good car for track especially the cup versions

great car mate, mate had one a few years back and it was ace, he then traded it in for an R26, which was excellent, but **** poor inside, great to drive though. renault know how to make a hot hatch.

They are fantasic cars. I was only saying to SWMBO tonight how much I missed mine after passing one parked on the road.

Oh the joys of editing :giggle: :giggle:

I was pretty astounded at how fast the 182 remember having to work to keep up with one in the the standard vRS

The 172's would be the ones under £2k. 182's and cup versions a little more at about £2.5k. I had a look at a172 for £1200 needing new brakes, tyres, some paint etc. but MOt'd for 1 year. I like weilding a spanner now and again, thought it would make a nice little project.

Offered him a grand straight away but he wanted to wait a couple off weeks for a better offer so I'll phone him again soon and see if it's gone elsewhere.

Its good to see you all approve of a Clio, I'll carry on looking then.

I drove a track modded Clio 172 a while ago (rock hard suspension, roll cage, racing brakes, etc). Absolute hoot, not that fast in a straight line, but scared me on corners, as i didnt have the nuts to push it to its limits!

For a cheap track weapon, they are a lot of fun.

It's the Cup that has the Sachs remote reservoir dampers isn't it? Be prepared to budget for getting them rebuilt/serviced if you get that model, and don't be fooled into thinking you need replacements at about a grand per corner! :)

I know a 1.2 16v that could be stripped and built into a track car.

If you are interested send me a PM

I had a 182 and it was by far the best fun i've had on 4 wheels out of all my cars. I really wish i could afford another one for a weekend toy

Could you imagine a turbo conversion from k-tec racing http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=2088

A 1.2 engine is a bit on the small side mate, too many things to change. I would be buying the 2.0 lump as a starter.

It's alright, I know what you mean.
