I'm currently getting quotes for a new clutch and one garage is struggling a bit and asking for my Fabia vRS (04) gearbox number. Any ideas what they're after?

I'm guessing that it's the part number, but how would I find that?

your vehicle handbook or the bootfloor under the mat should have a sticker on, this lists all the parts fitted to your car, one of the numbers will be the gearbox code, the for the VRS is 0A8

i wouldn't be taking a car to a garage that can't identify a gearbox fitted my car

The Fabia vRS can have one of 2 gearboxes depending on the model year, although I suspect the clutch is the same regardless of gearbox used.

I basically asked for a quote over the phone and because of Christmas hls etc they struggled to find a supplier who could help. I've just taken the car in and they found the part number on the VIN in the boot.

Looks like it's going to be around the £500 mark for an uprated new clutch which is around the price for a standard Skoda franchise fitted clutch.
