S3 Strut brace any good? Is the top one needed? As usual help needed.

Featured Replies

I have just bought the audi s3 strut brace kit but my friend who does a lot of work on leon cupras says that the upper strut brace is no good and the one that makes the difference is the lower one. I this true? Or is he talking C~#p?

Also if the top brace is worth fitting how do you do it. Do you simply drill the struts and bolt through? Or do you tap a tread and bolt through to that or have people put a studs in? As usual any info would be great.

Got the top, bottom and rear arb done at the same time so cant tell you which made the biggest difference, all i know is the handlng is much better. Check out this link for a good guide to fitting, someone on here passed it to me and its pretty concise. I had mine all fitted for me, but i think they used a bolt and nut on the top front and drilled it through, bolt from underneath and nut on top (i think, without gong outside to look) hope this helps.

Hi,

Your friend is correct in saying the lower strut brace makes the most difference to handling,I have fitted both upper and lower braces.

Drilled holes in car to match the pre-drilled brace holes, painted hole edges with rust proofer paint and bolted brace in place using stainless bolts, nuts and washers.

(Bolts fitted upwards from underneath with nuts on the top).

It does make the front feel very rigid and concise when cornering.

Got both on my cupra r the bottom one comes on these as standard but i fitted the s3 upper brace and i would say that its made a difference i can now do corners a little faster.

I drilled the strut tops and bolted it in with stainless bolts and nyloc nuts. very easy to fit do it in about half an hour.
