Service Reset

Featured Replies

Hi

2007 new shape fabia.

After servcing I could not reset the reminder on the dash,it says 'SERVICE NOW'.

Can anyone tell me how this is done?

Thanks!

The instructions are in the user manual, DIY servicing on a 2007 car though would have invalidated your warranty and devalued your car by more than the savings you have made DIYing it.

Most dealers struggling to shift cars wont entertain part ex cars without FSH. And private buyers would run a mile at the lack of dealer stamps in the service book.

Not to mention invalidating your warranty as above. Dealer servicing also has merits after warranty expiration as well, with many members getting upto 50% off repairs needed just after the warranty period.

Choice is yours.

Not really true! I was told by Jemca Toyota that I would have trouble selling my Yaris back in 02 as I had it imported and that they wouldn't even consider buying it from me, prior to me buying it... (Even suggested by another dealer that they wouldn't wanna service it). Jemca service it and now, continually offer me a good discount as a PX on a new car!!!

So don't take what they tell you as gospel, they want you to buy it from them and have them do the work/servicing. They WILL try to bluff you in order to get you to use them. That said, don't fix yourself, what they are bound by warranty to fix, anyway!

Servicing only has to be done by someone who is up to the job, using approved parts. It does not have to be the seller or main dealer.

I have a newer model, however, I can give you the reset, if it is the same and you still need it. Just let me know.

Agree, never once had a dealer ask details of my part exchanges service histories, they just ask if its up to date and not whos done it.

A girl at work had a Yaris, shes a bit daft and didnt realise it needed servicing, so when she came to sell it after over 3 years and 42000 miles the Seat dealer she was gong to sell it to asked for the history... of course she had no idea what they meant. They said dont worry we can sort that for you!!!! So, some lucky soul has a Yaris with lord knows how many miles on it now that never had the bonnet opened for its first 42000 miles :giggle:

I have just part exchanged my octavia, and the first question asked before I got a price was "Does your car have a full skoda dealer service history?", I could reply yes of course and we took it from there.

Indeed. Times for dealers have changed since many of us last bought & p/x'd.

Dealers are now scrutinising their PX deals to ensure they dont get stuck with lemons that wont sell (either themselves, or sell on to the manufacturers dealers)

They know the cars upside down. It is a bartering tool, nothing more. They can offer a lot less if it needs servicing but will do it themselves at cost at their own convenience. Same with minor paint damage. Huge knock down in price, cheap repair = more profit!

Also, if selling, strike a buying price, BEFOR telling them you have a P/X, even if it means telling them you are selling it privately. Get the deal, in writing, then ask for a price on your car... It WILL save you money, just be ruthless and haggle!
