Ive finally decided to put a bit of time into doing something with my felicia, so im basicly just wanting to know abit about compatibilty and which way to go in certain areas.

first, lowering springs- i know there are lowering springs available for the 1.3 but theyre quite expensive compared to springs for other more common cars, does anybody know if the springs made for a 6n polo would do for a felicia? if not then would the springs made for any other vag fit?

second, braking- what would be the best course to take when it comes to improving the braking, i like the idea of converting the back to disc but id rather just spend some time putting a larger set of calipers onto the front, maybe finding a way to get a set of fabia vrs calipers on there?

third, power- basicly i really just want to know what options there are when it comes to the engine, apart from the obvious induction and exhaust. im thinking of just welding a universal backbox on which shouldnt be too much hassle but after that i dont really have any other ideas. thanks

springs: nothing off a vw will fit, it looks like you are going to need to buy a set for a felicia, try venom motorsport, they have some pretty good prices on them... around £100 for a set

braking: don't bother with fabia rs calipers, they would be totally mis-matched to the master cylinder etc, plus you would have to find some suitable discs to go with etc etc, it may be possible to use polo/golf 'fn2' calipers with a bit of adaption, it is something i will be looking at in the near future.... other than that it will be 4 pot conversions, and it's all been done before, use the search!!

power: what sort of power are you looking for? and how deep are your pockets? i've heard it's really easy to put a 100bhp polo engine in there!! but other than that you will need to spend a lot of money on the 1.3 that's in there, you haven't said if it's an spi or an mpi model

thanks for the spring info. ill be looking to do the brakes first yeah some forum searching is in order.

with the engine i was very impressed with the 1.4 16v in the pickup and i think that would be the way to go but do you think it would be better to just buy a 1.6 none running donor car or just buy the parts needed from a scrapper?

i could supply everything needed to fit the 16v engine, we have several dead 1.6 engines kicking around, i have just finished a 1600 16v one now and have sorted the engine mounting out a very simple and easy way,

brakes , i have built up a kit to use bigger vented front disks and calipers which will be bolt on no modifying needed, rears i would leave alone as fitting discs just gives a rubbish handbrake and longer brake pedal

If you are talking about 1.6 Felicia engine, forget it, it is only a few HP above the 1.3MPi; and less tunable 1.3 = 68BHP, 1.6 = 74BHP; simply fitting performance spark plugs to the 1.3 can add 5BHP, so the 1.6 is not worth it.

If you want to fiddle with little amounts of cash and plenty of time, work on the 1.3 to get a modest increase; if you have the money, time and skill, go for the 1.4 Polo conversion.

that sounds great, i saw in another thread you were developing a brake kit, whats the deal with it? what callipers is it made to suit? i think brakes are the first thing im going to do, no point making your car go if it cant stop

i'll supply everything inc calipers mate all you would have to do is bolt it on and bleed it, it does need 14" wheels but thats no problem and usually the first thing everyone does anyway.

will have a choice of pads from std mintex to m1144-m1155 too , just not sure on time and price yet as i have 6 weeks off with a knee injury

You sure about that?

I changed the plugs in mine a few weeks ago, I put some bosch super 4's I found at work in, took about 10 mins and the difference was noticeable

No worries mate I've had a long history of knee problems myself, ill probably pick up some alloys in the next few weeks for it so ill make sure nothing under 14inch.

i'll take a kit off you if the price is right, ballpark figure?

I'm blowed if I can see why rear discs should give longer travel; disc pads do/should knock off less than drum shoes. That said, disc brakes on the back of an FWD car are pretty pointless as a rule, because the weight distribution under heavy braking goes towards something like 90% front, so you have no chance of overheating the rear brakes!

Springs - I had 40mm Jamex springs in mine for over a year before I sold the car, good ride quality and sailed through MOT no problem. Got mine on www.motorsportworld.co.uk for about £65 delivered. Think they also do upgrade brake discs and pads for the Felicia.

ok ken

well first you are replacing 2 tiny 19mm cylinders with 36mm ones so there is a lot more displacement, basic hydraulics really you are going from the master cyl being bigger than the slave (so to speak) to the master cyl being smaller than the slave,

honestly i have converted around 6 now to rear disks

tom ok no worries the figure will depend if reconditioned caliper are required of you are happy with good clean used units, everything would be checked out before hand anyway, as said its going to be a while yet till i can get back to the workshop

you can't get the jamex ones anymore, i tried to buy some a few months ago.

what calipers is it you are using?

ah that would be telling, tis a std sliding type that bolts to the skoda hub non vw tho

haha, secrets!!! must be some sort of girling caliper to have the 90 mounting centres, poss renault?? :giggle:

na i dont do french, only good thing about france is the week at lemans every year

it wont be a secret for long tho so dont worry..

what happend to your 2.0 conversion then? the thread was locked before it was finished

thrown a rod through the side of the block, but as they say, every time you break something, i comes back even stronger.... it's all under wraps at the moment.. :-)

lol so the gearbox outlived even the 2.0, tbh they are really not that good an engine (but you knew that lol)

i was looking at building all the petrol bits into a 1.9d felicia block as i am sure it can be done and i have a few spare

i think we need a random parts making subforum on here for making this kind of stuff,, i cant do a blog thing as i not paid a membership lol

Cheers for that; I'd not considered a change in wheel cylinder capacities, but you'd get the same effect by fitting 36mm wheel cylinders to drums (presumes 2 piston calipers on the discs). Is it possible to get a larger bore master cylinder for the Felly, which should sort out the supply volume issue?

no probs , first dont forget that a single piston sliding caliper is measured as 2 pistons, we always went to a bias pedal box really as all that happens is under hard braking the back locks and upsets everything, i am not sure if the ABS mastercylinder is bigger i have a feeling it is but then you would be reducing the front brakes too.

hwere is my pedal box , i've made a few now S1030770.jpg

there is a 25mm master cylinder from an audi quattro that will fit, all the standard pipes line up right too, i've got the part number somewhere...
