It does look good, a lot of reports about Google providing sweet-FA tech support though!

I've heard that as well but will wait until it's been out a few months to see what comes up before i get one. Can't upgrade for another few months anyways yet so have time to watch it develop!

It looks like it's going to be a great device and will certainly make the use of the excellent Android OS.

Not sure about the support from Google though.

Who is offering the handset?

Phil

I've been reading about this.

Its apparently "just another" android phone, rather than anything revolutionary. Thats not a bad thing, but its certainly not the iphone beater it could/should have been.

From reports i've been reading, the cost of the handset is quite inflated, so i'd imagine once the initial hype has died, the price will drop significantly.

Was thinking of getting one direct from the States. That's one powerful processor they've fitted for a phone :D

Google are much in favour of an open approach to re-sale, as you can imagine. Voda UK are rumoured to be the first to offer it to market here, with others following.

The 1Ghz processor and large OLED screen, with a much higher resolution than the iPhone or anything else currently available makes it quite a step forward in my book. Plus obviously the benefits that come included with Android v2.0. I'll reserve final judgement until I try one out, but it's off to a good start in my book

From articles i've read, the processor isn't that much different in performance to those in the previous HTC Android mobiles, and the screen is fantastic, until your out in the sun, where it becomes unreadable.

For me, the thing that will convert me to Android is nothing to do with the hardware. Its the accessories. The iphone, like the ipod, has a huge base of accessories. If Google can create a standard interface for all their mobiles, so you can buy one dock/charger/speakers/etc that will work with any Android mobile, and get it adopted by car stereo makers, i'll dump the iphone in a second.

Oh, and if they can get AAC loseless, or another equivalent for music playing....

Limited if any support and google having royally p*ssed off all the phone makers who were building android based systems.

Sorry, but I think android software market might just have committed suicide, so I wouldn't go near it with a barge pole.

From what I hear most of the phone companies are looking at Linux of back to Symbian to get away from the evil google.

Havent Nokia made Symbian freely available to others now?

I have an HTC Hero / T-Mobile G2 so I've been following HTC on Twitter.

It appears they have worked with Google to develop (and presumably manufacture) the NexusOne phone - I noticed yesterday that they tweeted details of their committment to support it.

Maybe this was at Google's insistance beacuse of the bad press people have mentioned - but if anyone needs it its at http://www.htc.com/www/support/nexusone/

Im not quite so sure its that bad yet, but theres potential.

Android is a really good idea, but googles open approach to it, could be its downfall. From everything im reading it does look like being Windows for Mobile phones, ie there are millions of applications, but the fragmentation in the market means you cant just download an app, and know it'll work, because of all the different configurations, screen sizes, interfaces, etc.

There was also a story last week, that Google's open approach to their market place meant a scammer managed to create a load of fake bank applications.

They have indeed manufactured it, and done a very good job of it by all accounts.

If only the market had millions of apps :D I've had an Android handset for quite a while now, and a lot of the apps are fairly awful. Don't expect any games close to those on the iPhone, and finding websites that review android apps is quite a challenge. http://www.planetandroid.com/ is a useful place to start if you are looking...

Apart from the drawbacks with the market / apps, the actual OS is pretty good to use though, with fairly slick integration with everything google does...

Well as apple are p'ing off developers, it's helped competitor's store get going.

Nokia's has risen dramatically recently with quite a few apps that are on the iphone appearing for either a lot less, or for free!

Completely. An app store needs to be somewhere between Googles carefree attitude, and Apples Draconian one.

I think with the Apps on android it the having developers willing to put the time/effort in.

There are a couple of fantastic games and apps available but that's about it!

My two favourite games are SpacePhysics and Bonsai Blast which are very well written and seem to make good use of the resources available on the phone.

It's just all the crappy 'Soundboard' apps that are cluttering up the market at the moment!

Speaking of the iPhone, someone mentioned to me last night there is talk of a new one? Anyone else know anything about this or are they just talking BS ?

Also just found a rather good review of the Nexus One - http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/reviews/2010/01/nexus-one-review.ars/1

And the fact the sort of person to buy an iPhone isn't generally the sort to jail break it, so iPhone app developers have a huge array of buyers for their apps.

All the people i know interested in a Nexus One will be rooting it, and using various means to get the apps for free.

As with everything Google do, the best way to make money out of it is to give it away free, and make money from the advertising. And who makes money from all the advertising............

Well, apparently sales of the Nexus One havn't been that brilliant.

Interestingly its only just gone on sale, and its already subject to a $100 price reduction Linky

I'll be very interested in this handset when it comes out. I really want my next handset to be Android. I really hope its available on Orange.

June, unless Nokia and Kodak win their injunctions on Apple products. I beleive apple will soon have some other big players picking on it as well ref patent infringement.

So remind me again, what makes the iphone so revolutionary if others have patents on all it's technology?

Nope, it's only available on Vodafone currently and doesn't come out for a few weeks here yet.

I had a propper play on a 3Gs the other day (about an hour of messing) and It was "ok" but very restrictive compared to the things i can change on my Berry

It has the Apple logo on it.

I've heard it is a good phone, although not much similar to their G1, as it is running the same OS, just tweaked slightly, but it does have it's benefits over the iPhone. I have the iphone, and there are some things it doesn't have that the nexus does!
