Dont be suckered into the T-Mobile Notwork from 02 for the sake of a handset.

I got SWMBO an employee contract on T-Mob (I know someone who works in HQ) that was basically free. The network is so bad we decided to switch out of that ASAP. I recall being in London and her not getting a signal.

My personal and company supplied phone are T-mobile. Used to be on Orange, and can confirm the places I go to with work I never lost signal on T-mobile, yet always did on Orange. Despite seeing the orange mast from my home, I got no signal once inside! So I switched, and have been much happier.

In the end though it wont matter, as soon they'll be merged.

Noooooo! Don't do it!!! Don't go to the darkside.

I have seen the Orange light (or have I?) and after a bit of a haggle I got a new phone down from £150 to free, for a £30 a month, 900mins, unlimited landline mins, zillions of texts and ‘unlimited’ interweb (500mb) + £3ish for a small bunch of MMS. Got a new 3gb, high speed dongle for £10 a month too (my old dongle was very slow :D )

But which phone?

500Mb counts as unlimited interweb? Bloody hell, that's not even close to being unlimited... Since last reseting the counters on the iPhone (about 3 months ago) I've used 3GB of data...

Orange and Vodafone (and perhaps others?) seem to consider 500mb unlimited. Still I have a decent dongle package to compensate and I don’t do much heavy surfing on my mobile anyway. It’s more for work (emails) and the occasional BBC web site.

I am on T-Mobile and have had no issues with signal or the web stuff.

Well our handsets have arrived from T-Mobile and my better half has had the pleasure of telling me just how lovely they are, damn, I have to wait until Friday to have a twiddle (with the phone ......... not the wife, I have to submit a 7 day written request for "that")

I've been known to stream TV across the interweb to my phone which is where a lot of the usage comes from. Most of the rest of it is email and the occasional web/google search as good as the iPhone web browser is, it's still no substitute for a 15" screen on a laptop :)

Go on then Amanda. Enlighten us as to what your spangly shiny new phone is!

Well Orange have sold out so it may not come till Friday or possibly a couple of weeks after that, but I digress :D ……..

………………….I ordered a …………………………

………….lovely phone …………

………called Desire :)

Does that mean you will still talk to me :)

Yay! Good lass!

Allthough I am jealous as I wont be able to order mine for a bit!

I love my HTC desire.

On T-mobile £30 month, 1200 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited data (3gb/month).

You'll need to visit http://www.androidforums.com/htc-desire Amanda to learn all the tips and tricks, and must have apps!

I had to settle for a Hero as 3 don't have the Legend or the Sesire yet, byt the android platform is really good, well impressed with it. Wonder if I can tweak it with VCDS :giggle:

Three are now taking orders for the desire and are shipping it later this month.

Their tarrif aren't very good though compared to T-mobile.

yeah, but for £25 I got the hero, which will be upgraded to android 2.1 this month. Plus as SWMBO is on three I get something daft like 1000 three to three minutes on top of the 500 cross network ones and something silly like 1000 texts. I don't think T Mobile allow you to stream the I-player or use skype either which 3 do.

I am seriously impressed with the android platform though.

Yes they do, as I can ;)

So how many of us have desire's now? Really really happy with mine, after 3 iphones it does seem like a breath of fresh air and the OS seems much less restrictive. I'm a droid convert, heck even the mrs is and she is a luddite.

Yup! You sure can!

Really can't wait to be able to put my upgrade order in for one!

BTW someone has succesfully rooted this phone but we are still waiting for some custom roms to allow Apps 2 SD etc.

Phil

Has anyone got a sleeve or screen protector for their desire yet? looking around and all the usual suspects say "coming soon"

Check here in this thread. A little collection of current cases/screen protectors etc:

XDA Developers

I fitted a Zagg invisible shield full body to my Legend.

Desire is available now directly from them, click the ipad in the BR corner to get a 50% code.

Well, after a few days use I am sold on the phone and android OS. The only thing I am missing is the itunes integration for things like podcasts. Thats addressed by Google Listen which just syncs your podcasts over Wi-Fi so it's just a bit of user re-education :)

It feels like a very solid piece of kit in your hand and the multiple buttons on the bottom are very handy to use when you are trying to do something "one handed" (fnaaar fnaaar) Flash support is nice to, I no longer visit MCN and EVO's websites to find big bit's of white with a little box in there.

First impressions, very good indeed.

For those who haven't noticed the update for turn by turn navigation in google maps came down yesterday, works really well

I noticed that yesterday on my G1 when I was looking for somewhere and it gave me the option to 'Navigate' there! Didn't use it though as only had 2G and it was taking too long!

YAY! I've just ordered my HTC Desire yesterday.

Phoned up T-Mobile and they couldn't beat a deal I found online.

£25, 600 mins, 500 txts unlimited internet and free phone.
