Best Car EVER! I have no idea why I love these but dear lord if a good VR6 combi came up I'd be tempted!

must say - very nice car. Like the 16v version as well

The 16v GT was quite a sleeper, the VR6 more so :)

Europe got a G60 Syncro 4x4 version too!

My inlaws had a VR6 Passat Estate.

Apparetnly is had far too much power for front wheel drive and too lofty to really chuck down cornish B roads.

Thirsty too

They failed at driving then!

Mine certainly doesn't have too much power! :D

Old school rules in that household.

Nothing compares to the as-it-left-the-factory Mk 1 Golf GTi in the garage

The VR6 B3 Passat Combi's are rare though, aren't they? What did the inlaws do with it? Just sold it on?

I'm not so fond of the saloon.. that said.. I'm a fan of estates in general.. Wanna Merc W123 combi in all one day.. pea green, tan interior, mint but slammed..

Yeah it's not a car i've seen many of (think old school Passat R36!)

I'm pretty sure it was on a P plate and was traded up to from a K red standard Passat Estate.

It was short lived though as the combination of it's thirst and it's ability in the wet to scare the mother-in-law senseless resulted in it being chopped in at a dealership for a then new Golf Mk4 Estate Diesel (shhh Babs!)

FFS!

You can't exchange VR6 rare goodness for diesel-based mundanity!

Unfortunately they can and they did.

The 18mpg of the VR6 just didn't cut it.

I did manage to dig out a couple of pictures though

No idea where it is now though and that plate is was transfered to their subsequent vehicles so can;t even see if it's still on the road that way.

Very tidy mate!

How were they driving it to get 18mpg average!?

Having spoken to my other half it appears ownership of the VR6 only lasted about 3 weeks!

Her dad loved it and I would imagine the 18mpg came from a very hard "welcome to the family"

But after scaring the life out of her mum and following the swtich from a 40+ mpg TDI Passat I guess it was an extra cost they couldn't meet.

And yes the replacement 110bhp Golf Estate (last of the Mk3s not a MK4 as previously thought) was very mundane!

But the Mk1 comes out for moment when mundanity needs to be broken (if it's sunny, with no chance of rain, and no salt on the rods, etc :D)

I'd love a Mk1. I'd love that Passat too!

Mine does 24mpg on my 3.8 mile commute, so it hardly breaks the bank!

It's a shame, tis a lovely looking Passat :(

i would have one of those

was it not available with synchro/4motion then?

was it not available with synchro/4motion then?

only in g60 guise i think, and they were only sold as lhd in europe

That Passat's awesome.. but it's not the one I'd like, lol.

Gotta be the slab nosed one I'm afraid.. Was that one you've put pictures up a facelift of the slab nose or a new platform? Seems very similar apart from the nose. Hmmmmm...

Someone needs to buy a slab nosed B3 Passat and investigate some engine tom foolery.. Yes, I looking at you Lummox & TeflonTom! ;)

Man, If I won the lottery ;):D

Ding Dong

Only in Europe, apparently. But I've never seen one!

Yeah, Pasty's one was a B4, which was just a face lift.

I agree with that. what a car!!!!!!!!

Nearly bought one when I got the audi but didnt think I could swallow vR6 fuel consumption. I love fast estates, would have the previous passat and the audi as esates but found cars I couldn't turn down for the money
