Is this instead of or as well as the vRS Pete ?

Surely you're not having another mid-life crisis :giggle:

if your good at head gasket repair!!!!!

if your good at head gasket repair!!!!!

Theres always the 1.6l models which I'm not aware of them suffering the same fate as the K series Rover engines, having said that I had a 1.8 k series engine (modded & and over 140k) and I never had a head gasket problems.

MX-5 good fun but a bit gutless without a super charger, hunt round for an old Porsche

I've said it before but the only thing worth having in that price bracket is an MX5 - you could pick up a decent one well within budget and still have money left over for some mods...

Didn't see either Bodie or Doyle in an MX-5! ;):D

What about one of these:

Don't have to worry about an optional hard top.

Thanks everyone - some interesting ideas there - in amongst the usual off topic (but entertaining) ramblings!

Keep your suggestions coming.

MX5 still favourite but I want to test drive an MR2 as well as I've had mixed opinions on them.

Oh - any thoughts on BMW Z3?

Forget the Z3, get an MX5 and slap a turbo on it. Cheap as chips to buy :) Or spend a bit more and get a real Z4 :)

We tried a z3 before we bought the mazda , its got a rubber chassis , it was that bad jackie noticed and though their was something wrong with it.

Rock hard ride on z4 , been in a couple and they are proper hard len , do ya back in mate.

Fine if:

a. you cut hair for a living;

b. you avoid the smallest engine.

(Not that the MX5 is much better on either count, but the Z3 must be the worst...)

I don't think I've ever seen a yellow MR2, but the mid-mounted engine must make for the most driving fun of the suggestions so far!!!

Looking on autotrader, there seems to be loads of Yellow MX5s, and Megane Cabrios. Theres a handful of Saabs, MG TFs, MR2s, Audi Cabrios, E36 Cabrios, etc.

Do you drive round with your eyes shut? :p

There are a couple on autotrader under £4k. I had the coupe version (the model before - 1993) and the converible ones were said to be a little tame compared with the older ones, but seemed ok when I drove one round silverstone on a test day.

The yellow MX5's were special edition "California" models - based on a basic 1.8i with a yellow paint job and a few extras. I think they did batches of 500 at a time IIRC.

If you are seriously thinking about an MX5 then the Owners Club might be a good place to check - most in the OC look after thier cars better and sell them on through the OC.

Z3s are good cars for sure! Get a 6 cylinder one and it will be lovely. :)

MR2 all the way, great fun to drive and proper build quality... the MX5 feels like its built by kids in comparison. Post 93 cars have improved road holding but the earlier ones are more for the keen driver. I had a 1996 one and it handled fantastically, in comparison to a 90 model I drove which would lose the back end very easily.

Hey, so are MR2's! Same 3 weeks the MR2 was covered, started first time too ;) 1993 K reg with what average milage sort of! :D

Would ecco the same for the MR2, MR2OC or IMOC mate. I did just the above, was interested logged on, got info bought a car from a owner. For the price I paid and what I wanted, got a stonking car!

Mine is a 1993 K plate, Rev2 N/A IIRC its the last of the 'keen' driver types as they changed the entire set up. Ive had it a few months now and minus one hairy moment its control able and can go sideways on cmd as long as you dont try and get it too sidways. After all its a mid-engine RWD car, not a front engine RWD which are better for sideways loonies IMHO.
