Dodgy Heater/Air Con?

Featured Replies

Hmm. I've had the same problem: heater throwing out lots of hot air even when the thermostat is set to a low temp.

It happened on my last furby once. Rotating the knob left and right did seem to eventually sort it out.

It also happened last night on my new furby...

You sure you didnt have the heater control upside-down?;)

I've had the same problem too - got a new heater control panel fitted last week but it doesn't seem to have sorted it.

There seem to be a few issues with this, but the dealer should sort them under warranty

:) Had the heater full on problem and a quick temp fix is to switch the engine off and wait 2 mins and it clears the fault, like other people are saying you have to have the dash out to fix it, the garage wanted
a quick temp fix is to switch the engine off and wait 2 mins

I'll try that next time. I had tried switching the engine on and off several times before without any effect but never left it for 2 mins. Mines going back in next week for a second time as chainging the control panel didn't work.

Well' date=' I couldn't turn off the engine - as I was on the motorway at the time :D

Anyway, what I've been noticing are a couple of things:-

1. Stood at lights I've heard the air-con give a rumbling type sound - I turn it off and it stops.

2. When I've been doing motorway journeys with the air-con on, if I hit a bit of traffic and have to take the foot off the gas, a huge rush of hot air comes through the vents into the cabin.

Now last night all was ok doing my usual M40, M42, M5, M6 route, but I noticed it was getting a little bit chilly - so I upped the temperature from 18degC to 20degC not much change but it helps. But still nothing, anyway I had to stop at the lights on the roundabout A556/M6 junction 19. A huge waft of hot air came through the vents. If you placed your hand over the vent it was almost burning.

I switched the temperature guage down to cold straight away - but nothing. I kept driving getting a little more concerned - and hotter!

I turned off the air-con and back-on - again nothing.

I put the fan on fast to try and blow out the heat from the heater - still didn't seem to do anything.

I opened windows to get some cool air inside - that worked, but still didn't get me any closer to what the hell was going on. If the air-con is supposed to cool - is there a chance its f.c.u.k.ed? Does that rumbling sound I've been hearing recently mean it was on its way to expiry - which it now has? Does turning the fan on turn the heater on? or does setting the temperature above 16degC turn the heater on?

Oh, I've not been out in the car since last night - gotta take a trip to see the girlfriend later, so I will report any more findings after that. But its all a bit of a worry. Only 2 years old aswell!!!!! The car that is.. not the girlfriend! :D

VAG Aircon unit bearings are known to play up, I had one go at about 50K on a golf. With the engine running lift the bonnet and get someone to turn the aircon on while you listen for the noise. Mine got gradually worse till the dealers had to fix it, they took some convincing at first:O

If there noisy get them done under warrenty cause its a really expensive job.

I had problems with mine, which seem to have been resolved since I took it in.

Someone mentioned on here, that there was a dodgy heater control unit that displayed the same symptoms mine had, so armed with this info, I took it in and told them. They hooked it up and couldn't find anything wrong with the HCU, but reported that the air-recirculation-control motor had gone, so they'd replace it under warranty.

Since they did that, everything seems to be working MUCH better than it ever has!

Yeah, it definitely looks like there are lots of Skodas out there with dodgy Heaters/Air Con Units.. I'm surprised there hasn't been a recall by now - especially as the number of people on here reporting incidents after I reported mine seems quite large..

If mine hadn't have been replaced under waranty, it would have been some

just had mine in the dealers today and they're going to replace the motor in mine too, wonder how many more have this problem.

thanks. :)
