vRS vs FR

Featured Replies

Im considering a Fabia VRS (in fact, I'm test driving one today).

Anyway, can anyone give me some good reasons for buying the Fabia VRS over the Ibiza FR 130?

I reckon there is nothing in it in terns of price, as the Seats seem to have a decent discount from dealer at the moment which brings them down to VRS prices.

Cheers!

According to Seat owners we get coming in here, the build quality on them seems a bit suspect.

By the way...your signature is FANTASTIC!

The perverse thing seems to be the cult status of the Furby, and despite the good looks of the SEAT it still misses the mark overall, whereby the Furby is a great all rounder out of the box!

'I wouldn't be seen dead in a SEAT' as any self-respecting Skoda owner would say... :)

JT

Test drove the 2 and found the ride on the Ibiza to be bordering on the shocking on some surfaces. Also, if you banter your dealer (with genuine online quotes) as I did, you can still get the vRS for about

Build quality put us off buying a Seat

Don't have any complaints about the skoda build quality is very very very good... and the look on peoples faces when they get passed is cool + plus on 50 mile motorway trips I get 52 mpg........... speed, value punches way above its class the whole world should be driving one

P.S never liked the red stitching in Seats

Good read - Thanks

Was very surprised to see "Fabia vRS" and "Cult Status" phrased together in a paragraph, I thought it would only be the enthusiastic owners who would think this.

Ok according to that interesting piece of reading the Fab is slower than the other two cars.. fair enough.... it is also cheaper than the other two cars..... great.....BUT its a whole insurance group higher!! whats going on there

Insurance rating is a bit puzzling. 9 against 8 for the other 2.

It may be due to the fact it uses more range model specific parts (like front bumper etc) and therefore parts arent as readily available as the unvisually modified other 2.

Just a guess

Glad you found that an interesting read... It took some time for us to compile it!

Good read there Josh

i know which car i would choose ;)

ibiza looks ****e imho. infact the new seats on the whole are starting to look pants

I think the insurance is dearer because most Furby vRS owners are probably going to give them a good hard seeing too, whereby the SEAT and VW owners only want to pose behind the badge and tell their friends how fast the magazines reckon they go.

This is the reason Skoda make a better car! They have had years of making eastern Bloc crap during and after the war, now they want to prove to the world that they are the fine engineers they really were before the Nazis intervened.

VW on the other hand, are too arrogant, and SEAT have their heads stuck too far up their own arses to make a good product that compares to Skodas reborn excellence!

The Skoda is the real enthusiasts choice of the three.

JT your humble opinion is more than welcomed on this forum :)

Someone said the Furby is slower, well quite honestly theres nothing in it at all, and the Furby gains a shorter ratio gearbox, so in many cases it can actually feel quicker.

IIRC, the early 53 plate fabia vRSs had a different gearbox / final drive ratio.

So rooboy, Colin's, Graeme's, Faboka's, mine...... have allegedly a longer gearbox so theoretically, top speed is higher, but acceleration is slower. I think the earlier boxes also produce on average slightly better fuel consumption

Nice one, well said! VW is now aiming too high with it's own brand, just look at that big Passat called a Phaeton, and Touraeg thing which must feel like driving a small suburban bungalow down the road - and both of which cost about 10 years worth of wages! Someone, on this site said the Skoda is the new peoples car, and I think is it, but there is a whole generation out there who just can't get to grips with the brand name.

One of my neighbours drives a new Discovery, and the other drives a new BMW. I said "I'm getting a Skoda" and they laughed, saying "Surely things aren't as bad as that?". Then last week I checked out the JD Power survey, Skoda came 2nd, BMW was well down at about 20th place and Land Rover was scraping the bottom of the list. Then I looked at their analysis of individual cars; Octavia 2nd place, and the Fabia 7th place. The Discovery and 3-series were again well down the list. I suppose it all boils down to what you want, and JT has about summed it up!

Yeah I think it is. I'm sure I read somewhere that one Fabia vRS had quoted figures of 127 mph, 9.6 0-60 and 56 MPG, and the other had 126 mph, 9.5 0-60 and 52 MPG. I'd suspect later ones are the latter.

The Skoda might actually be more 'nickable' as Skoda have chosen to give it an identifiable 'brand name 'VRS'. The other cars do not have such an obvious equivalent, and so do not stand out from the crowd.

Just an idea :)

Fantastic - I think this thread has helped me make up my decision to buy the VRS this weekend.

I think the Leon Cupra R was the last decent looking car SEAT made (the proposed 05 model is RANK) - the new SEAT's are too full of swooshing curves. I hate the new nose on the SEAT's and have spent hours deliberating whether I can afford the Ibiza Cupra TDi to get a car that looks like it has some anger to vent! The FR is a bit soft faced and rattly, the VRS at least looks purposeful (a seemed a lot quieter in the cabin). I don't even want to talk VW :mad::mad::mad:

8 yrs of VW ownership left me feeling unrespected and a burden. I was once told by a salesman when trading in a Lupo Gti that he didnt need to sell me the new car (R32), it sold itself. One lost R32 sale for him. My Leon R had 280bhp & 282lb/ft, but I dont think the VRS will be a disappointment when its remapped !!! :D

My first encounter into the world of diesel!

I drove both (well sort of: I actually drove the Ibiza TDi Sport, which I suspect is very similar).

The deciding factors for me were price, interior (don't like the Ibiza dash, or red stitching), and the fact that the Fabia doesn't remind be of Edna Everage's glasses from the front. The performance for both cars seems very similar, it has to be said.
