Rear sprayer and non-centering steering

Featured Replies

Hello all,

1st post so be kind.

Just bought a 2000 Fabia 1.4 (16v). Few issues I've noticed over the past month

1. The rear sprayer doesn't work

The sprayer appears clear and I can hear the pump so presume the tube has either detached or is kinked. Is there any detailed diagrams showing where the tube goes?

2. Bit of an odd one - Steering wheel re-centres slightly to the left. I had the tracking checked (a con, I know!) and I've checked the tyre pressures. Different tyre brands on the front but same size etc. Any ideas? There's no PAS light on and it went through the MOT and service without anything being spotted. Could the pump be nackered? I've got the "flickering" lights which may be down to what looks like a fairly old battery but could also be to do with the pump. It's an odd one as the car will go straight if positioned that way and I only noticed the wheel moving itself because I'm a lazy one-handed driver most of the time!

3. This one is really odd. The infamous Engine Management light. Came on so I got it checked. Fella said it was the oxygen sensor playing up but not to bother. He reset it, light came on a day later. Got a reader so just reset it when I felt like it. However, I've since noticed that with standard grade petrol (95 octane) it stays off yet with the "premium" (99 octane) it comes on the next day. Known quirk, or is it just the 99 chucks out more fumes? Absolutely no difference in the way the car performs. Still goes like you know what off a shovel.

Hi, and welcome

With regard to the steering I've found that Fabias tend to be quite sensitive to camber and so will tend to veer gently to the left on most roads. If you think it is more than that then have a full four wheel alignment done by a specialist - try here for someone local to you. Mismatched front tyres won't help, but if they have a similar tread pattern, tread depth and are equally 'grippy' it shouldn't be that big an issue.

I agree I kept thinking my left tyre was going down (it was) replaced it got tracking checked at same time wheels balanced etc car still tracks to left, pretty certain its road camber I try letting go on off camber roads(or stadeling the white line) and it doesn't track left. I'm lazy too and used to smoke roll ups(much easier to roll when your car doesn't want to go in the ditch all the time) I gave up smoking so live with the camber issue.

mmm starnge you brought this up i have the same car and my steering wheel is ever so slightly off centre to the right (you know how most cars lock steering in the center when key is out itf you center mine it doesent but put in its natural posistion slightly to the right it does!!) maybee i should get tracking checked but its recently had 4 new tyres all balenced and tracked and passed an mot 2 weeks ago no prob so i duno lmao!! :giggle:

:wonder: strange one i think

I had my tracking done and it still does the same. Just living with it. I'm going to be fitting new wheels to it shortly so will report back if it makes any difference. Checked the tyre pressures etc too.

Going to sort the wiper tomorrow weather permitting!
