You hypocrite Dave :p

Go out shopping to buy a Capri, and come back with a Fabia diesel? WTF!! :p

lol.. I know... it was a bit like me trying to buy a toy for myself though, but in the end its swmbo's money, and her car! lol..... I couldn't even get her to spend more time looking for a PD100 so I can map it into a sleeper car! lol..... she's happy with the SDI :wonder:

"I'll never buy another Skoda" wasn't it?

Bet the first thing to go wrong is console bushes :p

Nowt wrong with the SDI, a good plodder, and bulletproof reliability. :)

Oh, and you can still remap the SDI, good for a couple of horsepower :)

lol.. when I had my drive (Mel drove it too) I made the salesman direct me to some speed bumps, and listened carefully for creaking ;) seemed fine... the warranty isn't a skoda one, so if the console die, I'll get it done at my local fiat garage :p

..... irrelavant really though, as swmbo didn't like it. She liked the look, but didn't like the rest! (I tried to warn her no mod cons!)

SOOOOOO we went to border cars for a look round, and (assuming her finance is approved) bought a 54 plate Skoda Fabia 1.9 Comfort! lol....... met blue, very clean 1 owner, service history (no cambelt change but convinced salesman to do the cambelt before we bought) 50,000 miles, and an sdi so engine just about run in :) all electrics, no funny noises on the drive, no wet carpets, back seats look like they have never been used! got a service, cambelt, valet, 12 months mot and 12 months breakdown, and 12 months warrenty into the bargin  I'll post some pics up in the fabia section when we get it, hopefully next wed :)

:(

+1

Oh and the only Capris I've ever heard of giving their drivers an "unintended panoramic view of the surrounding countryside" were the pre-facelift (flat bonnet) mk1 3.0ls.

thats thecar exactly, except without the stickers on the side (the shell was refurbed 5 years ago.....)

got to get her something before I start my new job, I'm on a 9 week residential course!

Oh well Dave it wasn't to be. Could you be tempted by an MX5? My sisters is being traded into Telfords Hyundai. Should be in early Feb. 1.6,in dark met blue 52 plate I think, drives nice but may need a couple of new tyres IIRC. Also has a hard top which she is going to sell separately, and ideally would need it would need resprayed to match colours as it's in a silver.

If it were six pot, I would be very tempted :)

I would, and so would swmbo, but her incurance was £500 ib the sdi, so dread to think what it would be on an mx5 :(

we're keeping on looking, and trying to make up money... she wont have the capri! lol...... It may be a cheap £400 old car in the end.... gotta sort it before I start new job though, 4 weeks to get a car, never thought it would be so hard! lol....

I had one!

Put a Janspeed exhaust on it and also a K&N filter , it was a genuine 1 owner car with 45000 on the clock

Laser, S (3.0l?), 2.8i and a Brooklands?

Laser, S (3.0l?), 2.8i and a Brooklands?

Who offered you a starter for 10 ? :giggle:

Is the Capri a good drivers car too?

That's lush!

Is the Capri a good drivers car too?

By modern standards, no. However, I learned a lot about car control in the years I had mine. The bigger engines ones required respect. Any ideas of Dukes of Hazzard style drifting was something that needed a good degree of skill / commitment. I never crashed one and had a lot of fun embarrasing newer cars in the 3.0s as it had a lot of poke. The chassis was quite well balanced and once you knew where the limits were then you could work within them with confidence. Lesser powered versions were definitely not fast - in fact the 1.3 I owned was slower than my wife's 750cc Fiat Panda! The brakes were adequate, steering had reasonable feel and they were a great everyday companion. The only reason I don't run one now is that we have two little girls and all the money I used to spend on cars is now spent on pink things. :S

I loved owning a Capri, regardless of spec. The comments / looks were always welcome even if they were mocking. It was nice to drive something different in a world of Euro boxes and although I love the vRS - it ain't a Capri. :'(

I was getting all excited for you up to #24.

I'm all sad now, :'(

You have however re-ignited my strong desire for a classic again after visting several classic car shows last year.

Mrs R will be pleased......NOT!

Ignoring "out of talent" and "inattention" (Capri or other driver, pedestrian entered roadway inside stopping distance etc) accidents, I've only known of one crashed or spun Capri, and that was a pre-facelift mk1 3.0 litre car.

Spun my Mk1 facelift 1600 (with 2 litre engine) a few times but I was definetly misbehaving  Only time it spun otherwise was on a bit of ice at 70mph - no damage apart from to my pants  Oh and the gearlever used to come off in your hand (ooh er missus) if you were a bit vigorous changing.

Laser, S (3.0l?), 2.8i and a Brooklands?

Aye , the S was a 2.0 though , the later one with the XR3 style striped seats and solid headrests , not the Recaros with the 'tennis raquet' headrests. Mind you , that also gave it the single leaf spring rear suspension a la 2.8i.
