emoticon-0106-crying.gif Bad news its the abs pump £668 + fitting which is not as bad as i thought ,as i have read elsewhere people have been quoted £1550.Phoned Skoda uk customer services for a good will payment as car has only done 23k with Skoda service history,so will just have to wait and see, never rains but it pours.

Yes, the price of these unit has been cut to about £670. Still a disgrace that they fail. Goodwill doesn't come into it, its straightforward 'insufficiently durable' under the Sale of Goods Act. Go to Small Claims Court and you will get a payout for 100%.

How old's the car?

Write to HJ as well, name and sham might get them to pay for you. I take from end 2007 they are using different ones now so they should be ok?

james.

Mine went too, thankfully my Tesco warranty paid out the cost of replacing it... £1050 if I recall !

Thanks guys for your posts, car is just about four years old and low milage so should have been ok for a few years yet imho. Had the car at Delmore cars in Inverness and they are dealing with Skoda customer services regarding the matter as Skoda phoned them wanting the logs for the diagnostic that they did so will just wait and see what if anything Skoda come up with and you are right they should cover the entire cost of the ABS unit as it isn't fit for purpose and is a well known fault as you guys have pointed out,if only there was a thanks button emoticon-0148-yes.gif.

 My ESP/ABS light is on all the time now and its an 09 Scout so there could still be problems with the ABS units, when all this bad weather has cleared I must book it in the dealers. cheers - Stuart.

Delmore cars just phoned and told me that Skoda uk will pay 50% of all costs (parts and labour) not to bad considering the warranty has been out for a year ,but still comes in at around £400 emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif.

One sort of imagines that given the publicity Toyota got for Prius brakes that were not really faulty, and an accelerator pedal that very rarely went wrong(apparently?), VAG group would desperately not want the media spotlight to settle on a genuine safety issue with their brakes.

Edited by GreenMachine1.6

Yes but with Toyota a few people in USA have had some really bad crashes over the brakes, a family was killed where it stuck and he made a 911 call duering which has made public.

The ESP thing is not going to kill as the car will stop but like a old one! Anyway I thought HJ now says VAG will pay up 100% if serviced by there dealers and 50~75% if not, so I guess you have not used main dealer? If not go back to quoting the HJ in telegraph and then if still no contact him...

Phoned Skoda customer services today to ask them to re evaluate the claim as i think that the offer is too low going by claims put in by other people in the VAG group, with like myself full mdsh, i now await their reply .

  • Author

My that was quick, Skoda got back to me already ,and their final offer is 60% they said they wont go any higher and that was only due to low miles and fssh , so all in all better than nowt.emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Email HJ via the telegraph a bit of bad PR should get you 80-90%!

Went in yesterday and got the part fitted and it cost me £394 thats with 60% goodwill from Skoda.

Got this today on my 56 plate VRS diesel , does anyone know the faults codes as i have a basic code reader ??

I got this light on last weekend: 2005 Octavia 4x4 with ~110k miles on the clock. I'm the car's 3rd owner and have it serviced at a main skoda dealer as my father-in-law (notoriously canny - tight - with his cash) recommended skoda dealers rather than local boys.

Without asking, my abs sensor unit was replaced free of charge. Very impressed as given the car's age and the fact that I didn't buy new I was expecting to pay a lot. Thompson & Potter in Burrelton is the dealer. Well chuffed!

From various forums on the web it would seem that I've been lucky to get to 110k miles without getting this error...
