Apple iPad

Yeh. I mean surely a little net book would do the job and more. With a 1.6GHZ Atom and 1GB Ram and the same storage (if not more) available.

It's a bit gimmicky which is typical apple really. Not that I don't like Apple stuff. I think it is beautifully designed and engineered it's just that the focus is too much on the design and using fancy gimmicks to provide a real solid marketable product.

I suspect you'll find a fair few businesses using them - I know of a few that don't have a traditional reception desk any more , just a couple of staff wandering around the hall with a tablet , and then there will be quite a few given to staff in sales type roles where they visit customers homes and offices.

They would be ideal for that kind of thing with a 3g card and once you start buying them on contract you'll of course get a nice subsidised price that will bring the cost right down.

That would make it a tempting device for regular commuters who want a media player for their journey and fancy adding internet access too.

I think this is going to sell quite nicely.

They're expensive for what they do, and a normal tablet PC is likely to be better.

I agree, I'm not a fan of apple themselves at all but they are very beautifully designed. I couldn't see myself having one as i have a laptop there for when i need it with EVERYTHING i want on it. But it does look really really cool, i just think the novelty would wear off quite quickly. And £500 is an expensive novelty!

I really like the look of it and can see the appeal. Something you can leave on the coffee table in the living room, much less bulky and cumbersome than even a netbook. But no multitasking? WTF? I want to listen to music whilst browsing, is that too much to ask?

No multitasking, instant startup? Reminds me of my old Palm. Which was great unless you forgot to charge it and it lost all your settings...

Can you seriously not listen to music AND browse the web?

How about on the iPhone is it the same?

Suppose the appeal is that they are quite cheap for a tablet. I use a laptop come tablet at work and that costs just shy of 1k!

It just seems that they have concentrated TOO much on the flashy swishy-ness of it and left out some basic features that would make it so much better like multitasking and if they integrated a card reader slot in there too. And also seems odd to not have a webcam built into the front too.

I guess they have to leave something for the iPad 'S' or whatever the second revision will be called! :giggle:

I remember this too... was very annoying!

Woah there... one revolution at a time!

Mind you, who can't wait for an iPhone with a 5Meg camera, eh?

And an oled screen, faster processor, proper multi tasking (at last), touch sensitive case and possibly even a removable battery. If even some of these are true, it should be a very nice phone. There is talk of improved syncing too

If its the same as an iphone/touch, then you can do that. The music player and applications can run at the same time. You cant run multiple apps at the same time.

Thats ok then :p

Surely that all depends on what your definition of 'better' is?

Its bound to be beautifully made, have great functionality, be extremely intuitive and work seamlessly, sounds good to me! And whats the betting that all of the PC manufacturers now attempt to copy it and fail?

I cant see it being used in a huge number of applications, but as it has already been said. As a communication/media hub that sits in your living room, that everyone can use its fantastic.

You can also listen to music and do other things at the same time on the iphone, so i dont see why this would be any different.

Looking at some reviews, the only drawback for me, and about the only reason I'd need to keep a laptop aswell, is lack of MS Office compatibility.

To be honest, I don't see the point of filling all the niches between existing hardware. I've got a desktop PC for most of my uses, a netbook for quickly checking emails etc and a mobile phone I use to call or text people on.

I have a tablet PC and an itouch. Will I buy one? You bet I will :)

I like the look of that. Although I am a bit of a gadget junky. I'm rather glad I didn't buy an Archos 5 now I've seen this and it looks a hell of a lot slicker. Nice one Jobs.
