I may cry.

I just heard that my first car, a red Fabia 1.4 MPI Comfort, is no more :'(

Seems it was involved in an accident on black ice at 50mph. The driver (my former Physics teacher whom I sold the car to) is being kept in hospital for the day but assures me he is ok, which is of course the most important thing.

Still, it was my first car and I loved it dearly...RIP!

True...

I laughed when I heard my first car had succumbed to the usual K-Series trait

Head gasket and subsequent overheating and warping is my guess?

I sent my 1st car to it's death.. Ealing council came and took it away (on request)

The brake warning light both warned of the Handbrake being on AND low fluid level.

The handbrake on switch had been dicky for a while... so when the light remained on I assumed it's just completely gone.

Turned out it was actually loosing brake fluid! (I know, I know, Where Darwin when you need him). By the time I noticed what was going on you could only just see the fluid in the bottom of the reservoir.. miles below the minimum level marker!

It needed topping up every week after that and a "free brake check" at kwikfit told the full story of worn breaks in general and both rear cylinders pouring the stuff away as quick as I could fill them back up.

£400 to fix a £250 93 Escort 1.3 L. I think not... "Hello, Ealing council?"

Shame though, had only coverd a genuine 53k :o

p.s.

Think you'll need to change

"'05 Graphite Grey Fabia 1.9TDi Elegance...subtly modded!"

to

"'05 Graphite Grey Fabia 1.9TDi Elegance... suitably modded!"

soon ;):D

Tis a shame at that mileage, I'm sure someone would've taken it on...some of my mates back home will crawl through fire for a decrepit Ford

Yeah, not a lot he could have done mind.

Something similar happened to me.

I had a mint condition and very well looked-after 'phase 1' Saxo VTR. I traded it in for a brand new 'phaase 2' and the dealer said there would be no problem selling mine as it was in such good condition etc.

I spoke to the dealer a month later and he said the 'phase 1' had only been in the showroon three days when a young woman bought it on first viewing. She subsequently stoved it into a ditch, total write off and she was in hospital for two weeks. The salesman claimed the Saxo was "too powerful for her"...

All that elbow grease and cleaning the wheels with a toothbrush gone to waste!

All that elbow grease and cleaning the wheels with a toothbrush gone to waste!

Joking aside, I'd lay off using a toothbrush on alloys - I tried that once on my VX CAV GSI 4X4 - then had a close look and saw the tiny scratches - ouch, its only wonder wheels for me now! Old toothbrushes are handy for dirty things that you don't see like brakes etc - except they kind of tend to "explode" when left in petrol - which is a bit annoying when there are lots of strands floating around in with your parts getting cleaned!
