1.9 tdi Loss of Power

Featured Replies

My girlfriend has a 1.9 tdi saloon which, while it was still under warranty had a sudden loss of power like the turbo had stopped working, this was fixed by the dealer but i never did ask what it was caused by.

Now i have just bought a 1.9 tdi estate which has the same problem i was wondering if anyone can tell me some idea of what causes it and is it a trip to the dealer or can i fix it myself (i am a fairly competant mechanic)

Many thanks.

Maybe your MAF sensor, it sits just after the airbox towards the engine, they are expensive to replace so get it done under warranty. BTW these are notorious for going wrong.

Oh Welcome

Sounds like the MAF - does the power come back when you kill the engine and restart it? And then goes again suddenly after a few seconds of driving? Deffo the MAF, but could be something else odd - New MAFs can be had off ebay for

As above- MAF failure is a common problem. See if you can get one under warranty.

MAFs are now available as exchange units from dealers but I don't have any prices. If your girlfriend's car has the same engine as yours, perhaps she would agree 'lend' you her MAF if you ask her nicely so that you can see if that is the problem.

MAF's on exchange are now around
