Bolero Aux question

Featured Replies

I have just tried plugging my ipod into the Aux socket in the jumbo box arm rest, when spec'ing my car (FL VRS) i didnt go for the Mobile Device interface, as i didnt think i'd have the need for it.

I assumed that as i have the Aux connecter in the arm rest it should work??? or is the socket just there and doesnt work unless you brought the MDI?... its not really a problem as i have most stuff on SD card now but if its supposed to be working i would like it too.

You can play an iPod (or any other audio source) through the aux in socket, without the MDI.

However, with the MDI and correct connecting cable, you can then control the iPod from the head unit.

You can also charge your Ipod through the MDI

The MDI socket is installed in the glovebox.

I have the same problem no MDI so therefore how do I get my ipod to work through the Aux socket.

Have you actually enabled it in the Bolero setup - if you haven't then it won't work! MDI not required either.

And have you set the input voltage In Aux setup on the Bolero?

If its set high and your iPod has a low outout you won'nt hear itemoticon-0149-no.gif

You can't beat the proper MDI lead - gives full touch screen control of the ipod. Alternatively you can run a USB portable hard drive with the relevant connector lead

Thanks all for your speedy reply. I don't know at this time what the output voltage is of my ipod Nano 5th generation, will try and find that somewhere and then go through the set on the Bolero. If anybody know the correct voltage I would be grateful to know. Thanks in advance.

You won't blow anything up whatever the setting you choose.

IMO the MDI iPod interface is crap and a waste of money.

You cannot "control" the iPod via the Bolero screen all you can do is see a list of songs located on the iPod that you can access in alphabetical order. The interface is clunky and slow to respond and dangerous to try to use whilst driving.

For the cost of the MDI and iPod cable (don't forget that the cable is extra money) you are far better off to simply buy a 16GB SDHC card and dump songs on that and save money. You get the same level of "control" over the SDHC card as you do with an iPod, it's way cheaper and is basically permanently attcahed to the vehicle.

Want to charge an iPod? Use a cigarette lighter style charger in the power port beside the gear lever.

Maybe it's different on an MFD3 then, but using the MDI lead you can choose artists, albums, genres etc exactly as you get on the home screen of the ipod - and it certainly isn't slow (whereas the Bolero with the SD card I've witnessed is horrendously slow).

And you don't have to have unsightly leads to charge it.

And you don't have to look at the much smaller ipod screen to try to find the track you want.

So maybe you need to see an MDI lead in operation

Dead easy, as long as you find the correct menu - unfortuntely the name of the menu eludes me at the moment - I think it's top level in the "Media" menu.

Or get a Sansa Clip which can act like a USB drive or an iPod shuffle but with a display of ID3 tagged data. The Sansa Clip has usually beaten the iPod for audio quality (as a standalone player). The downside most iPod docks don't offer enough gain on their 3.5mm aux, but the aux sockets are usually in a naff position anyway.

Another vote for the 16Gb SD card option.

And me 16GB HCSD
