water in footwell

Featured Replies

well lads just wondering how to get the water out of the footwells have a nice bit in it

a bradawl and a hammer

Short of that, a sponge works fairly well, put it in dry, squeeze some water into it, then empty it into a bucket. Repeat.

If it's really deep, I've had some joy by syphoning it out using a thin bit of tube. Got about half a bucket out of one of mine doing that, but it has no carpet in.

either a long punch and make a small drain hole in the floor pan or get underneath and knock the large plug out each side

Use a battery powered drill

and just take a look under the car where you are about to drill

I started with the vax on mine. sucked about 2 litres out but it's just pointless, you need to pullt he underlay out, hang it ont he line to drip dry then bring it inside to dry. The underlay holds an astonishing amount of water. no matter how much you can hoover out, hair-dryer out etc you're not even close to getting it dry.

the carpets have a kind of semi-fibre glassed backing which means the water can't really surface and evaporate, it gets stuck in the underlay with no escape.

cheers lads ill be like homer simpson goin around with speed holes in it.i might try a dehumidifier for the carpets

Serious answer:-

1) remove front carpet and underlay, and hang on washing line.

2) remove front floor bungs, and allow water to drip out.

3) use a sponge or "minute mop" (ask other half if you don't understand) to dry out the rest.

4) replace or renew bungs.

5) you'll be a fair while waiting for the carpets to dry, so you can speed things up by replacing them after an hour or 3, and using dehumidifiers to dry the car out.
